Carla Gugino On Jupiter

Watchmen actress talks about her character, her co-stars, and Zack Snyder at the 2008 SAG awards

Lately, all’s quiet on the Watchmen front. The big set visit embargo has pretty much kept anything post worthy about the movie production from being released (loosen up, WB!). But praise be to award shows, press junkets and publicity tours! Thankfully, those PR events provide us with some minimal actor chatter.

Which brings me to the 2008 SAG Awards, where Carla Gugino, who plays the sexy Sally Jupiter, aka The Silk Spectre I, had lots to say about her involvement in the upcoming film adaptation.

It was really one of the craziest, most fun roles I’ve ever gotten to play. I start at 25 years old in the 1940s, and I age to 67 years old with full prosthetics in the 1980s. [Sally] is a larger-than-life character. She’s a costumed crime fighter, but her idea of a costume is very Bettie Page-meets-[Alberto] Vargas.

Gugino also talked about the movie’s title credit sequence which will use a mix of real archival footage and CGI to fill in all the past history of Watchmen’s alternate timeline of events.

The title sequence of this movie is going to be extraordinary. We spent many weeks over the time of the shoot shooting it. That’s going to be a very, very special thing that wasn’t scripted, that will be really empowering. It incorporates real history and the fictitious world of Watchmen, and so it’s very cool. We meet Nixon and all sorts of people.

Like most of her fellow cast members, she sings the praises of director Zack Snyder and repeats what many others have said about the chemistry between her cast mates.

It was really great. The cast is extraordinary; we all really bonded with each other. Zack Snyder has such a very strong and clear vision for this piece.
