sort it out please guys, it's ruining my forum experience, it's bad enough that we've had so many deserters recently, i don't want more people deserting because there's so much spam.

and I don't just mean delete it, that'll be a never ending battle, there must be some preventative measures that could be put in place, right?

We have preventative measures, so the SPAMMERS are not robots, they're people. Once those people get through, the mods delete the posts/treads and ban the users. I don't know of any more efficient way of dealing with them. Any ideas, let me know.

hmm, Spam is People! who knew! especailly with the user names of ones we've had the last few days,

I have no idea of any other preventative measures, maybe create a new subforum (where normal posters cannot make threads) with a single thread where you have to introduce yourself before you can post anywhere else, (i.e. give all other forums a requirement to have already had at least one post) that way a lot of spam would be contained in that one thread, which would make it easier to ignore and/or get rid of.
also possibly give a minimum requirement of a couple more posts before being able to make a thread?

As I've said before, I don't mind the spammers at all. They give me something to do!

I just realized that banning usernames is totally separate from banning IP addresses. There's a different menu option for each. Huh.

Let me adjust the settings on my banhammer and we'll see if banning IP addresses proves to be any more effective.
