So, a bunch of people have been asking me to do a list of the films I've loved in 2014. Given that this is something we used to do quite a bit around here, I decided to bring it back. So, here we are:

BEST:
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wild Tales
Inherent Vice
Whiplash
Life Itself
Gone Girl
Nightcrawler
Predestination
Locke
Birdman: Or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance
Edge of Tomorrow
The Lego Movie
Guardians of the Galaxy
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Puella Magi Madoka Magica III: The Rebellion Story
Big Hero 6
The Fault in Our Stars
Into the Woods
Interstellar
Noah
Big Eyes

LIKED - REALLY LIKED:
Song of the Sea
The Babadook
Top Five
La Dictadura Perfecta
John Wick
Boyhood
22 Jump Street
The Interview
The Book of Life
Rosewater
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Before I Disappear
In Your Eyes
Enemy
Chef
The Guest
The Rover
Godzilla
The Double
What If/The F Word
Nymphomaniac
Two Days, One Night
Million Dollar Arm
The Virgins

KINDA LIKED:
The Imitation Game
Snowpiercer
The Zero Theorem
Life After Beth
The Last Five Years
If I Stay
Tusk

DIDN'T LIKE:
Comet
Dear White People
The Machine
Maleficent
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (These last two almost made my Worst of 2014 list, but they aren't that bad)

WORST:
The Rewrite

WOULD LIKE TO SEE:
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1
White Bird in a Blizzard
Frank

Gone Girl

I have a question for you guys...

I have seen about half of the movie and I would like to watch the rest. The creepy atmosphere is nice, but I wonder if there is any violent scene at the end. I would like to see it with someone who doesn't care for that kind of solution.

So without saying ANYTHING about how it pans out – does it keep its simmering cool or what?

:)

There is a very bloody scene towards the end.

Dude, the second half of the movie is crazy fucked-up for so many reasons, violence among the rest.

Ah! Then I'll have to watch the rest alone! Thanks for the heads-up, guys.

I see what you mean. Döh! Just sat through the rest. Wtf. Not even Afflecks' worst critics would wish him a fate like that.

I'm still floored that you didn't like The Machine.

I just didn't think it was a very good movie. I didn't outright hate it or anything, though.
