Heard about that...

They've got a whole bunch of anime adaptations lined up, don't they?

Really? This is news to me because last I heard was that Leo DiCaprio and his production company were going to produce it and they already had named a director for the movie.

For the matter, A Robotech movie is getting made by Tobey Maguire's Production Company and Cowboy Bebop is getting made by...*sigh*...Fox. First bad news already is that Spike may be played by...Keanu Reeves. I so wish I was lying but that's not a joke.

:D :D :D :D :D

To be a little more fair, The director who was hired to do the Live Action Akira, Ruairi Robinson, has a short film on Youtube called The Silent City which is actually pretty neat: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeF-tDhGtvI

So at least the director might have some talent...

The problem with adapting Akira to live action is that it's pretty bad movie if taken out of it's anime breakthrough context. Now I'm going to get a bunch of hate for saying that but the only thing good about the movie is the animation and music. Everything else is just stupid, there is hardly any plot or any character development. Extremely little of what is going on is actually explained in the movie. However as anime it's just insanely well made. They do so much with so extremely little to bring every scene in the movie to life. The movie didn't have anything near a Disney sized budget but they managed to create something which is at time even more impressive. Basically Akira is the Watchmen of anime, niether are very plot heavy you don't need to understand exactly why Nixon has been in office for the last 10 years, you just have to accept it as a part of the universe, like like you don't have to know exactly what the huge ass explosion in the opening of Akira really is you just have to accept it as perhaps figure it out. Akira took a lot of thing that anime can do and built upon that base to reach new high grounds. adapting it to live action would be like turning Watchmen into a novel.

Also I'd like to say that Akira the manga is very well written story that makes a lot of sense plotwise, the anime just had a hard time putting a 2000 page comic book into a 2 hour movie.

Akira is a masterpiece. I hope the live-action remake isn't watered down...

I saw Akira in the theater, and I watched Robotech every day after school. I have them all on disc, now. I don't really want to see a live action version of either.

That made me genuinely LOL. And also made me hope it doesn't end up like this in any sense.
