No, they can't. Abrams tossed it all out, so that's that.

It doesn't matter. Abrams's Trek has one or two more movies and then it's dead and gone forever. This iteration will not be around long. Since there's no substance interest will peter out fast.

Totally agreed. All those episodes of Star Trek I've been watching on Netflix (which I totally hate by the way because its stupid and slow and there's not enough lens-flare) are now absolutely garbage, and I can't appreciate them because of Abrams.

Where is the sarcasm purple?

I'm not literally saying they can't co-exist. Or am I saying that Abrams Trek "ruined" classic Trek. I'm saying Abrams Trek is a completely new thing. As far as the Star Trek universe they can't co-exist. The reboot wiped the slate clean. Basically, it's a do-over.

Unless the next movie deals with them repairing the time line, or q doing it.

That would be a shock to all the new fans to have Q snap his fingers and have everything go back to normal

It would be hilarious if the new fans complained about a reboot.

So cameras are finally rolling on the sequel. Better late than never.

woohoo! no slower than Nolan did batman sequels though. Abrams is a producer for a lot of movies and TV shows, and still manages to direct a movie every 2 years, Nolan just directs a movie every 2 years.

it'll get made whether you like it or not, if you think about it, the sooner it's made, the sooner the franchise's next incarnation can get the series back on track.

Well, in summation.

I'm a 47 year old TV writer and director. The original Trek is one of the things that instilled a love of the medium in me and I ended up pursuing it as a career.

As a young man, when Next Generation and Deep Space Yawn were coming out, they seemed all shoulder-pads and barely contained sniggers. They reeked of cash-in.

The Abram's Trek was the first time in a long time it looked like the Enterprise was a cool place to be.
I'm looking forward to where it goes when it isn't being made in the middle of a writer's strike!

cutting the Klingon scenes was Abrams' biggest mistake in his first Star trek movie, they explain where Nero was for however many years it was at least, I hope he has them in the second, if he didn't want them ever he would have never filmed the scenes for the first movie.

I feel kind of...............impure watching the first one as my introduction to Star Trek.

Then again, I sure as hell don't want to see William Shatner punching puppets.
