Red State, that was awesome, I loved everything about it, why are Kevin Smith movies always so panned critically?

The problem I have with Kevin Smith post-Chasing Amy is that he never really evolved as a director, and seemed fine with repeating the same damn Star Wars jokes in each of his films.

Red State was a nice change of pace, and while it certainly isn't perfect, it's proof that Smith could do something different and it's a shame that (supposedly) "Hit Somebody" will be his last.

Also, Cop Out was terrible. And while I know it wasn't written by him, it was almost enough to destroy any goodwill I had towards Smith.

Cip out wasn't that bad, it was forgettable, but I enjoyed it whilst I was watching it, if I saw it at the theatre I wouldn't have felt cheated.

Gladiator (extended)
9/10
This time round I'm struck that Scott's direction isn't consistent in quality through the film. In fact, I feel the climax of the opening was quite awful, as disjointed as the bar scene in Raiders, But at other times it's pretty wonderful. These don't cancel each other out, obviously. It's still a great blockbuster, well-written and a welcome visit back to the territory of DeMille's Biblical epics.

The Thing With Two Heads (1972)
Oh lawdy, a hell of a lot of fun. Instantly one of my all time favourite exploitation movies.

I've actually been meaning to see that, it sounds hilarious.

Sort of like if your head was sewn on Brooklyn's body.

Or if Mal's was sewn onto Fred Phelps.

That'd be great.

We were constantly laughing the whole way through. It's that odd mix you get with exploitation comedies, or so-bad-they're-good comedies, where you're laughing at the film one moment then with it the next. And at some point you stop caring to make the distinction.
So absolutely, knowing you to be a scholar of terrible movies, I urge you to find and watch this film.

I always have this fun memory of my literature teacher in high school who told us once she always arranged for the class to see Gladiator whenever they got into the The Trojan Horse, since (in her opinion) Gladiator was very succesful in portraying the archetypal mythological greek hero represented in the tale by Homer, even if Gladiator has little to do with The Trojan Horse or greek mythology for that matter.

The year I was seeing the class with her, she said she was confused, because now Troy had come out, but she thought it was quite the shitty movie, unlike Gladiator, yet it was the movie ABOUT the lesson she was teaching !

Due to other random reasons we never got to see either, but I think she was planning on Gladiator in the end

I don't want to be crass, but if Miss Virginia had been in a trojan horse with me, believe me, it wouldn't have just been "passing the night away".

BUUUUUUT that's beside the point :D !

Let me go through a quick check list
[x] Is the story teller a bro?
[x] Was the story cool?
[ ] Did the story have a point?

Alright, now that I have gone through all necessary actions I can safely say... cool story, bro.

Well, Chronicle made me want to watch this. So I did.

And it was much more satisfying.

Also, it reminded me just how heavily Batman Beyond was influenced by it.

Have you ever read the manga?

Also, the Blu-ray just went out of print. So that kinda sucks.

I did, but I don't recall enjoying it all that much. I remember feeling like it just dragged on, but I don't actually remember that much since it's been awhile.

Can't go wrong with Del Toro.

Well, it's produced by del Toro, but his influence is undeniable. One scene's dialogue is a slight variation on the opening/closing monologue of The Devil's Backbone.
Which I kind of know off by heart. In Spanish. Don't ask.

Given my understanding of Spanish (of which, I don't know any), I believe the translation is:

"This soy milk is nothing but a fantasy, yo."
