Problem: Muscles pretty much are the essence of Bane's character.

Uh, not really. He has a relatively rich backstory and was not only physically superior to Batman, he was his mental/tactical equal as well. The cartoonish muscles are not necessary, as long as he is in shape and suitably intense, which Benicio would be in spades.

I dig the Mad Hatter. Let's go with Toby Jones for that one.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc. He scared the shit out of me in Oz.

Here's an obscure choice for a cameo: Rhys Ifans as Cornelius Stirk. You know you wish you thought of it.

I love the Mad Hatter, it would be cool if they could work him in, but I seriously doubt it.

I think this is an example of a Bane that is close to the look of the comics, and yet so poorly done:

Image

I'd tone down the look of him. If he was wearing a mask I'd make it a simple ski mask that may or may not have a pattern on it. Maybe Bane has the mask on when he first runs into Batman or the police, just wearing it to conceal his identity, and the media sort of stick him this trademark. As for those tubes, I'd probably make it more simple like something that attaches to his wrist, with a belt full of canisters that he changes when he needs to pump up. For the rest of the costume, simple black clothing.

Like this T3cii?

Bane

Because I want him to have a pattern on his mask, like a Masked wrestler Mask...

like this

(and funny side note, I have that figure, bought him a few weeks go for $11 at my local comic shop. That's not mine, but I have one just like it :geek: )

I guess if I had to choose I'd pick the first one. But with less of a gimp mask look to it. This is just a matter of personal taste, though. I'd prefer a less cartoony costume, or one that didn't look like a costume if that makes sense.

Is there a reason he wears a mask? Has he ever appeared with it off?

Of course, if Nolan wanted to mix up the villans a little, i think this villan would be also perfect for a new Batman film, they can work a story around him to make him fit in:

his name is BLIGHT

Never heard of him. And I'm willing to bet I'm not alone in that.

And I'm willing to bet that in the "realistic" ( ) world of the Nolanverse, Blight won't ever get into the limelight

A primary villain from the Batman Beyond series. He was exposed to a fatal nerve gas of his own design, but treated with radiation. While the treatment saved him, it also gave him an incandescent green body and the ability to project huge amounts of radiation. He hid this from the world through the use of synthetic skin, which constantly molted.

I can't believe I just typed that off the top of my head.

Anyway, let's put this in perspective: "Perma-white" Joker was out-of-bounds for Nolan. What chance does the aforementioned monstrosity have?

Agreed. Bane is too 'out-there' for Nolan's Batman. I still say Mad Hatter would be fun to see, but why not bring Scarecrow back? I think that Poison Ivy might also be a little too out-there as well. Hell, why not bring in Harely Quinn?

Done in the right way, he could work

I agree, especially if he is a creep psychotic possible pedophile, maybe he kidnaps one of Gordon's kids and Batman has to get the kid back while Gordon's trying to bring him in... tension!

After two movies he's pretty much over used

Same as Bane, done right she could totally be a "realistic" character

Without Pudding it just wouldn't be worth it :(

Yeah, it wouldn't be much fun without the Joker getting all annoyed from being called Puddin' all the time.

My issue with "Blight" isn't so much with him being unrealistic as it is him being a pretty obscure character. At least he's obscure to me, and I think I'm fairly familiar with Batman. To me, the big Batman villains are The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler, The Penguin, and Mr Freeze. In my mind these are Batman's most recognizable villains.

Not only that but I think Scarecrow was only used in the first movie because he was one of the only major villains left that had not been used in any of the previous Batman movies. Then they took another crack at The Joker, because, really, he's the most popular and recognizable villain.

Hardcore and casual fans will be expecting another major villain. I don't think anyone could top the Joker, let alone Ledger's performance. But they are going to want to see a familiar face. Let's not forget this is a movie franchise. Warner Bros are going to want a villain that will draw fans in and that they can market the movie around.

The thing is, from what I've read, Nolan doesn't want to do The Penguin or Catwoman, and they would have been the next logical choices. There's still the Riddler, but as Curi has pointed out may be too similar to the Joker. Mr Freeze would be another option, but the question is how to make him work in Nolan's Batman. I think he wants villains who could actually exist in the real world. You could have some crazy guy in clown makeup going around killing people. Mr Freeze though....that might be pushing it.

I don't know if Nolan would want to have him as the villain when Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will be out next year, especially with Johnny Depp playing the Mad Hatter.

I don't think Bane is too out there. I think there's a way to do him without him seeming ridiculous.

Here's Bane from the Batman animated series (still my favorite depiction of the Batman universe to date): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YnwAm5TcDw

"Blight" sounds like Dr. Phosphorous from a '70s Batman story arc reprinted in the Strange Apparitions trade. It came off pretty cheesy in comic form, so I couldn't see it working on film. At least, not in a Batman film.

I don't think the Riddler would be too similar to the Joker. All they seem to have in common is that they terrorize the city, I guess you could say the Joker left riddles around or whatever, but it's not really the same. He's blunt with his actions, tell Batman what he's going to do and it's up to him to stop him. With the Riddler it's more of a mind game, and who better to have some mindfuck plot other than Chris Nolan. I could see him using the Riddler and not even revealing who he is until the end of movie(might be hard though cause of leaks and casting). Whatever the case, if you don't think he could do something good and original with the Riddler, you're crazy.

He has several times, though only briefly. Certainly in KnightsEnd and probably in Knightfall too. Loads in Vengeance of Bane, also, actually. He's just a fairly normal looking white guy with short brown hair...

Am I? Well, maybe we're all a little crazy. I know I am. 8-)

I really wouldn't mind the Riddler. It's just he seems a bit more benign that the Joker. As far as villains go, the Joker was a huge step above the Scarecrow. He provided a good match against Batman. The Riddler would need to be at least the Jokers intellectual equal. But is he as dangerous a character? I think Bane at least would be a physical challenge to Batman.

Is he white, because I thought he was supposed to be Spanish?

I'm pretty sure that Nolan is using the Riddler. According to my friend, there was a scene after TDK in theaters of the Riddler sitting on the corner of a building having some inner dialogue.
