Empire have started a poll to see which director people would want behind this film:
http://www.empireonline.com/features/wh ... efault.asp?

As it stands, Zack Snyder is leading on 23%.

That's right, more people want him as director than Christopher Nolan.

Nolan's only producing this film, that's official.

I think Snyder would be great to helm Superman, he obviously knows how to adapt and use a large budget successfully.

And I think he would be more willing to use Darkseid than other directors would be, realizing that Superman can't be grounded in realism like Batman can be

the question is, does snyder know enough about superman to do it justice? clearly when it came to watchmen, he knew what he was doing, but just because he likes comics doesn't mean he knows shit about superman.
i'd kind of like nic cage as a consultant, as the worlds most famous superfan.

I agree.

As Curi has said countless of times, we got the best Watchmen movie we could've ever get, and it was quite good for that matter.

I disagree.

The problem with Superman is that most writers are more willing to exploit Superman's "superness" rather than his moral aspects and his relationship with humanity.

I dislike Darkseid as the villain of a new Superman movie, firstly because Darkseid fucking sucks, he is completely unidimensional and boring, serves only as a punching bag for Superman, his worst trait by far is what he does as a character, he detaches Superman from the problems of Earth and becomes one of the many enemies in Superman's gallery that people can easily not give a shit about.

The latter from above is one of the many reasons why people love Batman so much, Batman fights criminals, psychopaths, politicians, mobsters, terrorists, etc. He fights enemies from the real world, no one in real life is afraid of demon-goblins from Apokolips :|

I agree and disagree with that statement. While it's true that writers are more willing to use Superman's "superness" it is because he's Superman. It's in the name after all.

I think to make a sucsessful superman film, the filmmaker needs to strike a balance between Clark Kent and Superman. I think that was one of the problems of Superman Returns.

I think that one of the problems of Superman Returns was having a mountain of kryptonite for a villain.

And a stupid story line.

I believe you misunderstood me. I mean where with Batman they took all supernatural elemnts out of the equation you can't do that with Superman, and I think Zack would realize that ore than some other directors. He would look at Watchmen which has very "real" characters, but also has a man that does the impossible, balancing the two brilliantly.

I don't mean we need to lose the -man in Superman, but we need better villains than Lex Luthor again and again

i think the time is right for lex luthor the scientific genius, i want him to be kind of the anti-iron man, a similar intelligence, but petty and vengeful. i'm totally all for a more sci-fi villain too though

I disagree...................again

But I do, unfortunately this is another issue with Superman movies, people are tired of Lex Luthor as the main villain in every movie.

But the problem isn't Lex Luthor himself, it's been the handling of him in the movies, the character alone is probably one of the best villains that have ever existed in fictional media, there's nothing wrong with him, the real problem is that the directors don't tap on his hatred to Superman, the envy he has on the man of steel, and how hard bent he is on defeating him that he doesn't use his brilliant mind to solve every problem on Earth.

I'm not against a Sci-Fi or supernatural villain, but I don't think Lex Luthor should be cast away simply because of his constant appearence, in fact, I support the appearence of crazy villains like Metallo or Mongul, if the director deems those as "too supernatural" to include them adequately in a movie, then it no longer is a problem of villains, it's a problem of imagination.

Yeah, Snyder got the gig.

Personally, I'm hoping this is a sign that the next Superman will be more action-oriented. If this film is going to feature Kal-El trading blows with a physically worthy opponent, there isn't a doubt in my mind that Snyder is going to deliver.

More than anything else, I'm intrigued with the contrast here. We've got Nolan's thoughtful and intellectual approach to films guiding the unleashed energy and fun that Snyder brings to his films. This is gonna be interesting.

I can't wait to read Snyder's first interview on the subject.

So...any thoughts on casting, now that we know Zack's directing?

Jon Hamm as Supes, Carla Gugino as Lois? (Sucker Punch is in post, right?) ;)

(Not really my pick, but I just think it's kind of a funny coincidence considering how many people have been suggesting Jon Hamm. I do think Carla would make a great Lois, though.)

I vote Brandon Routh for Superman, but Carla Gugino seems like a good pick.

^^^ You know, I liked Brandon Routh, too. I'd be happy to see him in the role again but I'm certain they won't do that. (Although, wasn't there a story about a month ago saying they were going to have him audition???)

ETA: Oops, this was meant to refer to Godziller's post. :?
