You people are creeping me out, yeah sure, the trailer looks fun and the movie does seem positively different with all the crazyness.

But "I seriously cannot wait for this !!!" :| ?

I seriously cannot wait for this.

Also, I like stalking girls.

The movie has been in development for a long time. Seeing as how O'Malley was still writing the final book by the time the movie was finished filming it's not that big a surprise. It will probably have a more happy ending.

I just assumed that he told them what would happen in the final volume.

To be honest, I'm not sure if O'Malley himself knew what was going to be in the final volume that far back, beyond perhaps the vaguest of outlines.

I understand that prep for this movie started while Vol. 3 was still in development. To that end, I think that we can expect the first two volumes to carry over with extreme fidelity (the trailer has already proven that), but the two stories will branch out increasingly far after that point.

For instance, note that Roxanne attacked with that strange prehensile whip, though she stuck with a plain sword in the graphic novel. Additionally, the Katayanagi twins attacked with robots in the GN, but they seem to appear in the trailers as a DJ duo. From this, we can suspect that while O'Malley had the names and appearances of the seven exes planned out, he clearly didn't know as much about their attack methods at the time of production.

Then there's Envy Adams. If you follow O'Malley's blog or read his "Annotated Scott Pilgrim" series, you'll know that it took a long time for O'Malley to get a handle on that girl. She went through all sorts of background changes and appearance makeovers behind the scenes before she finally appeared in Vol. 3. It's possible that O'Malley might have established her character in collaboration with Edgar Wright while the movie was in development, but I wouldn't be surprised if the movie's Envy is noticeably different from the GN's Envy.

Also, if Knives' dad or Lisa Miller have made the cut, I'll be very surprised.

It's already been confirmed that Lisa Miller will unfortunately not be making an appearance in the film.
A bummer, as she was one of my favourite parts about the books.

Damn, no robots?

Then there's the fact that I had to google Lisa Miller.

I actually didn't think she was going to be in it regardless. She doesn't seem important enough to warrant inclusion in the probably already tight pacing.

I think you missed something then.

I think you're both right.

On the one hand, Lisa is a key figure in Scott's past and a rather large temptation in his present. She presents a brief but sizable hurdle in the Scott/Ramona relationship.

On the other hand, screen time is indeed short. By excising her, a good portion of Scott's backstory is removed and the Scott/Ramona storyline is condensed. Additionally, there's simply no room for a girl with only one volume when there are so many other characters struggling to share the spotlight.

In my humble opinion, it's like losing Joey and Aline. It's a painful loss that's clearly felt, but ultimately necessary all the same.

apparently there was a preview screening in london over the weekend, apparently it was pretty much complete apart from some wires still being visable and the closing credits being missing. i hear it was good overall though

I CANNOT FUCKING WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE. THIS HAS A 90% CHANCE OF MAKING MY TOP 5 FILMS OF ALL TIME.

The comics are ingenious, the casting is perfect, and I seriously cannot wait to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead (the most beautiful woman on earth in my eyes) kick serious ass with that giant hammer. Epic friggin' WIN...stead. ;)

Also, who cares if the movie deviates from the comics story-wise? The premise is still the same and the movie will keep all the unique spirit O'Malley gave us with his comics.

Can't believe no one posted this but here is a frame by frame description of the trailer, and I learned some things about that I really didn't notice when watching the trailer regularly.

I noticed a few of these before, but that was cool. Thanks for posting. I love that observation about Ramona's handbag.
Something they missed was the amp behind Scott in one of the shots has the "Lame Band" brand on it.

Before the trailer came out I had a dream the movie was going to be like that. With actors wearing cartoon like masks.
