You mean Imitation Godzilla.

Btw, one of the reasons Godzilla Final Wars is so awesome is because Godzilla fights Emmerich's Godzilla in Sydney, Australia.

On the "how do you bring Godzilla back" issue, does anyone remember the kids tv show that followed Emmerich´s movie? The explanation they made up was to turn Godzilla into a cyborg. It was fucking hilarious to watch cyborg "dad" godzilla fighting is son.

This my friends show why you should never create a kids animated series based on your movie....

i remember it, and i also remember it not being any worse, and certainly less off the wall than the Evolution Animated Series.

Oh, snap! They're going to reinvent the franchise by combining it with Star Wars.

Genius!

Eh, that's not so much ripping on Godzilla as it is King Kong. Also, the only time Godzilla was ever seen scaling a building like that was in the animated series based off Emmerich's film. And who really counts The Clone Wars as Star Wars?

Well, if you've ever seen a Japanese monster movie poster then you'd know that they're riffing on that.

Like this one.

Actually I saw that clip... I wouldn't call that a fight, I'd call that a pimp smacking

Yeah, that's a very accurate description. Sum 41 barely got to sing their song.

Behold relevance!

Is this a good thing? I think so. I haven't actually seen Monsters, but at least this guy seems to be relatively qualified for the position.

Oh, wow. One moment he's doing a low-budget indie film about aliens, the next moment he's given the keys to the most famous cinematic monster franchise of all time. I don't know if I should pity Gareth Edwards or envy him.

Never did get around to seeing Monsters, but this sounds like a novel and thoughtful choice for director. And anyway, God knows he can't possibly fuck up worse than Emmerich did. This will be interesting to watch.

thoughtful? i don't know, it seems to me like they saw that he'd done a movie called "Monsters" and thought "this guy would be perfect to direct a movie about monsters!" it really shows no more thought than the ability to read 8 letter words.
as for novel, we are living in a time when indie film makers are really in the limelight, with District 9, Moon, 9 (the short) and other low budget movies, propelling their directors to major budget movies in one step. i know monsters is another step down the ladder below even Moon as far as budgets go, but still, we are in an era when low budget movie makers are actually being considered for high budget movies, instead of completely ignored.

also if i remember rightly, i heard that there aren't really any action scenes or actual monsters in "Monsters".

i'm not criticizing the choice, since both he and his movie recieved critical acclaim and a few awards for the movie, so i'm sure he'll do a fine job, i'm just saying it seems anything but thoughtful, or particularly novel

Yeah, funnily enough, Monsters was not very Monster orientated for a film called Monsters. I mean, they were there, but they act as more part of the setting rather than something like Godzilla, where the monster is the most dominant theme of the story.
