Why can't Keanu go back to doing movies like this instead of trying to show he's an actor, not even a good one, just an actor? Because for these movies he didn't even have to act and he was perfect

I miss the days when he had a personality. I still haven't recovered from Constantine.
Should not have gone to see that. It was most heinous.

Oh I don't know, Keanu was pretty good in Parenthood too...but then he was playing the same kind of role as Bill and Ted.

He's had the same expression on his face since he began acting, over 20 years ago.

At least he was a good choice to play the emotionless Klaatu in the Day The Earth Stood Still remake. Not hard at all for him.

Am I the only person who is completely freaked out by the fact that Keanu Reeves is going to play Spike Siegel?

God, Constantine...

I only watched that movie for Peter Stormare...he and Tilda Swenson were the only good thing about that crap fest.

Klaatu wasn't that emotionless in the classic 1951 film, and Reeves wasn't that good of a choice either. A stone can show more expressions than Reeves. Emotionless characters actually do require acting skills if they want to be done properly, but all Reeves does is just standing there like a robot and reading out his dialogue.

Even emotionless Keanu can be good.
Three words:
A SCANNER DARKLY.

Although RDJ did upstage him most heinously.

I don't mind Keanu.

And yes, A Scanner Darkly was fantastic.

Exactly. There is a difference between deadpan and dull.
Deadpan can be fascinating to watch (Buster Keaton is a good example) but just mugging about and being bland doesn't cut it.

I was a very sad panda when I learnt about that bit of casting.

I'm sorry but how does cranky, passionate blonde Brit = bland American brunette?
John Constantine was not in that film, not even for a moment.

I do wonder why Keanu made the decision to remove all emotion from his performances. Was it to distance himself for Theodore Logan?

Oh, I haven't seen that. Curious now.

Yeah, he does that. I don't complain.

My husband plopped The Day the Earth Stood Still in the DVD player yesterday, while I was writing my Rorschach blog. I like silence when I write so we had the sound off the movie (my husband is deaf so sound doesn't make a difference to him.). I have to admit, I'm happy I didn't watch it a long with him. I'm such a fan of the original movie that I think I might have lobbed something at the tv watching the new one.

I did find it interesting that with out sound Keanu had the same expression on his face the entire movie. It's different than say Jackie Earle Haley's rendition of emotionless as unmasked Rorschach. Keanu just looked dull to me. :(

Anyway, I just keep picturing the dialogue going like this, "Cha, Klaatu Barada Nicto" Hurm, well that's my best Keanu impression with written word, anyway.

Leonard Nimoy as Spock was an emotionless character who in mere eyebrow flicks showed so much more than many actors can show in a full emotion scene. Plus, Klaatu's not supposed to be cold and calculated, remember he's supposed to be trying to save earth by showing it how to find it's humanity, some robotic killer couldn't do that and besides... HE'S AN ALLAGORY FOR CHRIST!!! Who was quite emotional. Keanu's a poor actor in everything I've seen him in (except Bill and Ted 1+2) He's actually the main reason I don't really like the Matrix movies, their okay but... no where near as great as everyone says

Not sure if many people say the Matrix movies are great, especially not anymore. The first was pretty good (though reaction to it was ludicrous) but the sequels were absolutely shocking.

the second was good for the freeway and burly brawl - that's what i find most feasible.

the third was good for the final fights between A) smith and neo B) the machines and Zion.

the first was badass all around.

"Bodhi, this is your fucking wake-up call man. I AM AN F-B-I AGENT!"
