Alright, so let's take Watchmen: To make it a movie many changes had to be made, resulting in a different product that upset many fans. The scenes dropped were considered unfilmable, and "unneccesary" (i.e. the Bernies) yet they enhance the Story.

Civil War has many scenes and characters like that that if they are dropped the basic story remains, but what makes Civil War great is that it is much more than just the basic story. If it has to be totally retooled to make it's way on screen the term adaptation no longer applies because the final movie will be too different from the original comic.

I will concede that of the New Warriors onl Speedball plays a massive part so only he has to be included. Well, yeah he could be working on the show alone, but at that point... why just have him? If that scene is being made, why not include the rest of the team? Though, people will begin to wonder who these people are, in the comics world they were a team for around 25 years and older readers would remember them as the dysfunctional team from the 90s(our time, of course, before you complain about how they couldn't have been a team for 25 years). Of course there is an easy way around the, change the original tragedy, maybe instead a different hero could do something totally different. In theory this sounds fine, but then the resulting chaos would also have to change.

Then there is the exclusion of Hulk, he'd have to be off world because he's such a game changer, now how do they explain that?

The parents groups would need a fair amount of time because the groundswell movement of angry mom to national law to full on super hero combat would have to be shown.

The scenes with Namor tie into older FF stories, with out that back story the scenes seem out of place, and with out Namor some of the global scale of the Registration's effects are missed.

Then of course there are characters like Daredevil who play minor parts but really are vital to show how all the heroes deal with the new law.

I think we also have to address the fact that you think using one version of a character over another (Ultimate/616 Fury) is the same thing as dropping characters and story arcs entirely. There are needed changes to the adaptation process, I will not argue this, but the changes that you would be needed to make Civil War work can't be considered adaptation, it is essentially reinvention at that point.

Also, can we not do piecemeal responses in this debate? Editing all the little quotes and such is just annoying

Dude, these movies don't have to be for the fans alone, will the fans even give a crap if The New Warriors are replaced by a made-up group called "The Power Masters" or some other bullshit ? There's really nothing that necessarily demands the presence of Speedball per-se, if only for fidelity to the source material, which is a valid concern, but even that can be sacrificed sometimes, as The Avengers has done in spades.

Wouldn't that be the frikkin beauty of it ?

What if The Hulk participated in this Civil War ? Why not take a chance with a story like that ?

Can you imagine the AWESOME possibilities it would entail having The Hulk choosing a side ?

What if, as soon as Namor jumps in with his armies, Tony Stark gives the Signal and The Hulk is unleashed ?

Oh lord...........the nerd.............gasm !!!

Namor's real importance into the story is at the final moment when he charges in favor of the Anti-Registration side, but apart from the sleeper cells (which can be perfectly written off) there's not much to his background that affects the story.

I really loved this event, it's mostly the one story that got me into mainstream comics, to this day, it's still one of the few instances where an event really delivered in ALL promises and angles, I fucking love it.

But if it was to work, it obviously wouldn't have to function as it did in the comic, which personally, I'm okay with it, the movie universe is an alternate universe, why not play around a little bit with it ?

Okay, I was saving to go to the Avenger's marathon, which is $40 a ticket, and is an ALL day event, so snacks are like a MUST. Easily over $100. PER PERSON.

So I decided to have an Avengers week.

We're (my whole family - sans my little brothers) watching Iron Man tonight. Like now.
The Incredible Hulk tomorrow.
Iron Man 2 on tuesday,
Thor on wednesday,
Captain America on thursday,
and we're all going to The Avengers on friday.

Fuck yeah.

I was gonna post the link to a Empire podcast where Fweige talks about the Avengers for 13 minutes, but then I remembered that the movie hasn´t come out in the U.S.

So my contribution is gonna be this:

for scene A, not long, maybe a minute, 2 tops, for scene B, like 15 minutes probably, but (semi-spoilers) [it's more like a gag than anything important to the plot]

I have a friend who always makes us sit around to see if there is an end credits scene for most super hero type movies. He wanted to wait around for the Dark Knight, and I told him I was pretty sure there wasn't a scene, and he just said "okay, great, I'm staying". I eventually left, while he and his friends stayed.

I felt pretty stupid staying till the end of The Avengers, since there was no after credits scene (after the mid credits scene), most people were slow leaving the cinema, but a couple of my friends who probably left right away just assumed I left without saying bye!

Don't know if it's real or not, but that second after the credits scene sounds absurd and I love it.

Seeing as how rampant speculation about this has been going for months, I don't know how spoilery it is. (I loooked, I've already watched the mid credit scene like 5 times so...) I think he's got the look and sound, maybe enhance the voice to be a tad deeper. I like it.

Dude, I have zero will power when it comes to stuff like this, I have been dreaming about the avengers for the last few weeks and I have been binging on Marvel comics to get prepped. My body is ready for Joss Whedon to take the Avengers and use it to make sweet love to every orafice on my person.

Also, because of the character in the ATCS I;'ve already got some pregeekjaculating going for Avengers 2.
