I'm sorry, this statement is false. 25 years ago there still would have been a ton of hype because all the main characters (Thor, Iron Man, Cap, and Hulk) were already very well known, the Hulk TV show had been made, and comics were going through it's rebirth (thanks to Moore and Miller) and a massive movie like this would have goten all the hype that it could get. Even a movie like superman which wasn't close to the first non comic version of that character was a major hype machine, so a movie like Avengers (If done the same way: tying several previous movies together) would have gotten an ass load of hype.

I didn't mean it like that.I meant, imagine it came or before you were born, and you grew up with the movie, and it was always there, would it be as big as star wars?

Well, we can wait 30 years and find out.

I think Ghostbusters is a little overrated. *shields face*

We're not talking about the Star Wars franchise, just Star Wars.

And in defense of Ghostbuster bashing, it's the sequel that doesn't really hold up for me. I used to like it on the same level as the first but upon second viewing, it really isn't that great. It's entertaining and has its moments, though.

Yeah, the sequel definitely isn't as good. It does have its moments (my favorite being Venkman on the stand, coaching his lawyer, Luis). But it is basically a rehash of the first movie.

Whoever said Ghostbusters only holds up because of nostalgia is just wrong.
I do babysitting ocassionally, and there were some 8 year olds who had heard of the game, but didn't even know it was a movie.
So I brought it up on Netflix, let em watch it, and they LOVED it.
Especially one of them. But he was way more intelectual and he caught alot of the more mature jokes.
So, sitting back and watch their reactions was just priceless.
So watching it with them was the time just recently I scored it a ten.

Also, I saw this movie when I was ten, and I fell in love with it.
Its just brilliant. The chemistry is awesome and it just never gets old. I love it.

The second one is not as good, but I like the painting thing, and all the pink slime was cool =P
Courtroom scene was boss too.

Ahaha.

Okay, I should've been more specific.
Its not just nostalgic for people who grew up in the eighties.
And I don't love it because I saw it when I was ten, and its not coasting off of fond memories like TMNT or MMPR.
Its legitly good.

Its still appealing to new audiences today.

Hmm... judging by the fact that you saw it when you were ten.. and I'm almost four years older than you...

Shit, I saw Ghostbusters when I was four (along with Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Rocketeer, Stargate and many more). I feel old. I also thought that Sigourney Weaver and my mother were the same person, simply because they had the same hairstyle at the time.

So are you... refuting my point? Or agreeing with me?
Also... Ripley as mom would've been crazy cool. XD

I saw Aliens when I was 11, the Matrix at 13.
My parents were shit judges of which R rated movies I could see.
The end of Raiders' freaked me out more than anything in the Matrix.

well i'm just thinking out loud really, by the time you were like 4-5 it was like 1999, unless your parents are just strict out the ass, you totes should have seen ghostbusters by then (if you're a real 90s kid lol).

Well I had seen Back to the Future, Terminator 2, Speed, Total Recal, Tron and Starship Troopers.
In fact, I saw 'Troopers in theaters.
When I was four...

My dad regrets not walking out.
Cause apparently the movie scared me shitless.
I just remember... "They sucked his brains out..."
And in art class I drew a tanker bug. I thought it was cool...

But ghostbusters just didn't even come up til I was 9 or 10.
I had also seen all the Star Wars Re-Releases in theaters as well as got them all on VHS for my... 6th? birthday.
Fun times.
