i just found out about these 2 movies that came out last January and this January in Spain called The Valdemar Legacy (La herencia Valdemar) and The Valdemar Legacy II: The Forbidden Shadow (La herencia Valdemar II: La Sombra Prohibida) although seemingly not based on any particular Lovecraft story, the movies seemed to be full of Cthulhu Mythos stuff,
anyway, the second movie even has Cthulhu in it, as shown in the poster, and seen in the trailer linked above.

i thought i should post about it, knowing that we have a few spanish speaking people and lovecraft fans here.

also interestingly it is the first spanish movie that has ever been made without any government funding or subsidies.

I don't think there is a god. And if there is I'm nothing like him.

Kinda off-topic but also on topic, I once saw a movie with Vinnie Jones called The Midnight Meat-Train and the final twenty minutes seemed very very Lovecraftian.

yeah, i'd say it's more off topic than on topic, but i just looked it up, and i'm not surprised since it is based on a Clive Barker short story, a lot of his stuff is normally somewhat lovecraftian, i might have to check it out.

Ok, I thought I was hooked on lovecraft.

But Avatar has a dead-on obsession with the man and his work  !

fascination maybe, i wouldn't go as far as obsession, i only found out about these movies because someone told me about them, i didn't seek them out.

Haven't seen them, really. Although they raised my interest in Lovecraft. I still have an antology waiting to be read...

They were a big deal back in the day because they were Paul Naschy's last films before he died. The critics agreed in that they weren't specially good, mostly the first one, who acted as a prelude. Also, not the first, but one of the few to be made without government funding.
I thought they were being marketed in english as well. Were you able to find them?

I have found them online on DVD but not dubbed into English, only subtitled, i'd probably buy them if they weren't really expensive (over £20 for each movie on DVD and almost £30 for blu ray, brand new movies on DVD or BD are normally half that price.)

Whoa. Definetly not worth that!
Forget about them, I'd say. They're nothing special.
