I think the trailer for this completely failed to promote that it was based on a classic book by Edgar Rice Burroughs and in itself, it fails to sell the movie because it doesn't show at all what makes it stand out besides other sci-fi films of its ilk.

Then again, how many casual movie-goers know, or even give a fuck, who Edgar Rice Burroughs is ?

It should've at least said something like "Based on the Classic Novel" or something.

It would give it some cred.

Yes, Edgar Rice Burroughs is a character in the film. This is consistent with Burroughs' claim at the start of the novel that he simply found Carter's diary of Barsoomian adventures and was passing it along to us, the audience. He'll be played in the film by Daryl Sabara.

I agree, I think I said here before, if not it was somewhere else, they could have at least put "From Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan" or something, Tarzan is pretty much universally known.

Okay, I understand that, but I think Project completely missed our point.

I don't think including Burroughs as a character is going to help the marketing of the film.

So I basically just read a quote by Andrew Stanton that said he dropped the "Of Mars" part of the title because not everyone likes sci-fi and he didn't want to give them a wrong first impression.

NOT EVERYONE LIKES SCIFI SO I'LL DROP THE SCIFI PART OF THE TITLE SO THEY'LL SOME SEE MY SCIFI MOVIE AND FUCKING HATE IT, AND THE FANS OF THE CHARACTER WILL FUCKING HATE IT TOO BECAUSE IT ISN'T SCIFI LIKE THE FAMOUS SCIFI CHARACTER THAT IT'S SUPPOSEDLY ABOUT

Although, in seriousness, it's more fantasy than scifi. But who actually dislikes scifi anyway?

Man, that's like Sci-Fi changing their name to SyFy to attempt to reach the non science-fiction crowds, despite totally playing more sci-fi than before.

This movie is already a disaster in the making, this is just icing on the cake.
