Sweet. I know we can only see a little bit of it, but I love how humanoid and anime-esque it looks.

The only thing missing from that poster is:

"To Robert Jensen Hanley, with all my love" Guillermo.

Admit it 'ziller, this is THE movie for you

Definitely. I'm forever indebted now to del Toro.

Pacific Rim Comic-Con footage description, dawgs.

"We see two men walking through an arctic terrain. They're using a metal detector and come across something that looks like a small statue. One of the men looks out on the horizon and we see fear on his face. A Jaegar (one of the giant robots) is stumbling towards them and falls to its knees. We see a little bit of one monster attacking a bridge. It's mostly claws and we can't see the body in whole, but think Godzilla with six arms. There's lots of footage of the men getting suited up. They have a number of different colors of mech suits. The tagline reads, "To fight monsters...we created monsters."

Also, apparently, there will be nine Kaiju throughout the film and seven robots.

I´m really curious as to how they will sell the concept of the movie on the trailer that´s coming out in December. The sensible thing would be to keep the fuck away of any Transformers vibe, since Del toro isn´t that kind of guy, but I can see the marketing/PR guys twist the movie towards that...

I don't think people will find many comparisons between this and Michael Bay's abortions, at least if Del Toro does his job right, he has proven that he is very careful about the design of his creations, and he really brings his imagination to life, so it really doesn't seem plausible to me that somebody would look at something Del Toro made and say "Yup, we can totally pass that as indistinguishable, unimaginative robots who flail unto each other without any sense of coherence".

I know I'm making a few assumptions, but it just seems unlikely to me that this could pass for the next Battleship, it would mean Del Toro completely fucked this one over.

It´s humanoid giant robots. I still remember that dipshity Bay saying that McG was ripping off Transformers, when giant terminators bots apppeared in film even before Bad Boys 1.

What the hell was McG doing before Bad Boys 1  ?

Anyways, I guess it'll mostly depend on the studio wether this ends up looking like Transformers or not, still, I really think that Del Toro does leave his mark on his work, I'll be very surprised if that trailer ends up looking any less than amazing.

Not McG, we saw towering robot terminators in T1 and T2, and was sort of glanced on those turret wielding terminators on T3 final act.

This is Del Toro, so the acting will be good and the humour won´t be childish. That right there will be the things that make this miles above Transformers. Aesthetically, it will have it´s touch too. But at their core, they´re still giant humanoid robots, so so comparisons will be made.

Not really, there's a big distinction between Transformers, which are "living" mechanical beings, and the Jaeger, which are essentially suits, albeit giant in scale, or more basically, tools.
the robots will show no emotion, and to be honest I am expecting there to be more comparisons to Iron Man (an emotionless humanoid suit with a living breathing person inside, the only real difference is scale) than to Transformers (clearly mechanical beings with thoughts and feelings and emotive faces)

I can't believe it took this long, but I'm finally getting flashbacks to my adolescent otaku days.
