Maybe, but even Avon and Stringer had distinctive personalities, even Chris and Snoop are likable for god's sake, that scene in the Hardware store ? Awesomeness.

Slim's still in the game, but he's never more than a supporting player, although he does get one of the most satisfying moments of the series.

Damn Slim, WHY ?! WHY DO YOU HAVE NO AMBITIONS ?

Seriously, his voice, his relaxed, pot-induced demeanor is just infectious !

ALSO........MR. T3CII !

An important thing I neglected to mention, and which I'm realizing watching the second episode.

I hate Carver :| ...

Guy's a mega-douche, he's been three seasons with a troglodite mentality that flexin' his muscles and crackin' skulls will leave the neighborhood clean of drug dealers, even when he accomplishes absolutely NOTHING while doing so.

I guess I was wrong, Herc is nowhere near as stupid as Carver !

I predict you'll change your tune by the end of this season.

Well, I don't know about that, but I'd be surprised if you didn't see him in at least a better light than you do now. Coincidentally, Herk will reclaim his mantle as King Moron this season.

There's a guy on youtube who does hilariously awful impressions of the cast, including Snoop:

THE WIRE SPOILERS AHEAD !

You've been warned bitches !

Image

Oh lord...

This show, THIS SHOW !

I felt like this season just......completely breezed me, maybe it was because I went ahead and watched almost three episodes a day, but it was just incredible, it ended too soon for me, I couldn't get enough of Chris and Snoop, of Dukie and Randy, of Bubbles and Sherrod, of Carcetti and Norman, of Namond and Colvin, just not enough !

I don't think I've ever been really dissapointed at any direction the show has taken, but even putting McNulty in "grunt duty" seemed so perfect for his character, even if it meant I would get to see one of my favorite characters less this season, for whatever little scenes we got of him, he was just great, Beadie's kids calling him "McNulty" was fucking gold , or his relationship with Bodie, awesome stuff.

For starters, I must say that the SHEER AMBITION of this season astounded me, The Public Office, The Police Department, Homicide, CID, Major Crimes, Barksdale's remaining crew, Marlo's crew, Prop Joe, Omar and his new boyfriend, The co-op, The schools, the kids...

HOLY SHIT...

I thought Simon and crew were probably biting way more than they could chew after the first episode was finished, but goddamn did the finale just brought it all to a perfect closure, in my opinion, and leaving me with hunger for what is to come for the next season, it's just great to see how everything really found some sense of closure, even if it wasn't a happy one for everyone...............poor Randy

One thing I never expected though, was the death of Bodie.

I don't think I ever mentioned it, but at that moment in the first season where he killed Wallace, he just fell to an incredibly low point to me, I despised him so badly, through the seasons I was amazed at how the show had kept him alive for so long, it was clear all along why people could always find "comfort" in Omar, the latter just wasn't a hypocrit, and he never had any delusions about himself, even Bodie was partially wrong about Little Kevin's death, even as sincerely hurt as he was by his death.

So it kinda surprised me that I would be rooting for him in his final scenes, to somehow expect "The Game" wouldn't eat him, but so it was. It makes me wonder, did many other people hate Bodie ? Did they like him ? Was he as despised by others as he was by me ?

Now this is a very personal opinion of mine, but I ask because, to me, it was the single most honorable moment in a goddamn police show when we, showrunners and audience, can truly acknowledge the problem instead of believing that justice is an issue merely solved by punishment, why exactly "honorable" ? Because McNulty, the prototypical "main cop" of the show, is pushing himself to bringing Marlo down with Freamon and the others to avenge the death of a corner drug dealer, and I find that to be nothing less than amazing.

There's really A SHITLOAD of stuff I could talk about, but this would probably be the longest post I could ever put in this here forum.

SO T3CII ! Ask away :) !

I'm not sure if this could be considered a spoiler, but, two of the kids will be made into recurring characters in season 5, the other two only a cameo appearance. I'll say season 5 is the weakest season, if only because it could use three more episodes (it's only ten episodes long).

No matter how you feel about these characters, I think you still end up rooting for them. There are almost no outright bad guys, just as there are no outright good guys.

Perfectly said !

That said, we mourn for you, Stringer and Bodie !

I don't know , tough to begin !

I'll say, if you ever cared a little about Sergeant Landsman (I know I did), I thought it was quite the landmark (ha!) of his to throw Bubbles away, specially since barely the previous episode he had thrown a tantrum at Lester for digging out Marlo's corpses, I thought it was a great moment of purity for his character, for once, people can know when to do the right thing.

Now I fear for Bubbles' safety :( ! If there's one character I can imagine dying, it's him, oh lord...

t3cii wrote:

Well well well Mister t3cii.......

My mind has changed about Carver :o !

Clearly he cares, but his "tough cop" charade got old a long time ago, it's good to know that he has evolved, I don't know if the writers meant for the audience to find paralells between his character and Colvin, but the latter merely seems like an aged version of Carver.

Who knows, in the future, when Carver becomes deputy lieutenant, he might just open one "drug free" zone of his own

Landsman is a great character, and offers one of the greatest tributes to a character I've ever seen on television.

Told you.

feliciano182 wrote:

Oh, this show loves its parallels. You haven't seen anything yet.

In fact, that's one thing that I like about the series, even if we never got to see how characters like Avon or Stringer started out, we can sort of see it in these young "hoppers". Characters like Namod are sort of born into it (fun fact, Cheese shares the same last name as Randy.), whereas characters like Michael and Dukie sort of stumble into it.

The show also sheds some light on how characters are the way they are, without spelling it out for the audience. I'm talking about the fact that both Michael and Chris were molested as children. We see Chris who seems to operate on this completely ruthless level, but then we get this one, brief moment, where he, Michael and Snoop scope out Michael's father. Michael doesn't come out and say what reasons he has for wanting his stepfather gone, but Chris give him this look, this rare look of compassion, and we suddenly know exactly where Chris is coming from. His scene where he beats Michael's father to death is one of the most visceral scenes on any show.

A few more thoughts (I had to)

- Remember how you couldn't get over how much Sally had grown up on Mad Men? This is especially true of the kids on this show. Look at some of the kids in the first episode of season 4, then compare them to the first episode of season 5. I mean, not that it's unusual, but one character is like a giant by the end of the series.

- Prez comes a long way in this series, probably farther than anyone else, and I'm glad to see he found some redemption in teaching these kids. It's also mostly cliche free, which is rare for shows depicting the relationships between teachers and students.

- I'm not sure Tristan Wilds is a good actor. I think the actors who play Dukie and Randy are mostly convincing, but I'm not sure I ever really buy him as Michael, although the character is interesting enough so that I don't mind.

- Dukie is such a sad character. He gets bumped up a grade, and that ends up being a bad thing.

- It's so weird how little we see of McNulty compared to other seasons, although at least he does come back for good by seasons end.

- Even though this show is like Mad Men in that it's mostly about characters, I feel there is much more content in each episode. Very little style over substance.

- This show is still very bleak. Imagine circumstances where a kid not having aids is the bright side to a stabbing. :(

Chris overall just produces an array of emotions that seems unnatural for his type of character, one moment you like him, and you think he's not such a bad guy, and then the next he is fucking evil incarnate ! Amazing stuff.

I'm sure you're also aware, that in the case of Snoop, Stephen King called her "one of the most frightening villains ever written for TV" !

Damn straight !

Also, I can't imagine him being called by any other name that's not "Mister Prezbo" !

There's something off about that kid, that part "Why is everyone so friendly !?" thought it was an indicative that Michael was gay, but then we see him later when Dukie spies on him, and it left me with my head scratching.

I really liked what little we saw of him, he seemed happy and satisfied, and some scenes were just too awesome, like Bunk coming to Beadie's place with some wine, just guessing what the motions to being a GUEST at a DINNER were

This goes back to him having been molested by his step father/mother's boyfriend. He is mistrustful of older men, particularly Cutty. When we see Cutty give him a pat on the arm, he shies away. When Cutty offers to take some of the kids to a boxing match, Michael makes sure one of the other boys is going, so that he's not left alone with the guy. When they're at the match, Michael makes a point of ignoring Cutty, and spends much of the match talking about the hot girls at ringside, as if to tell Cutty he is not interested in men. And when Cutty drives him home, and they drop off the other boy, rather than let Cutty drive him home, Michael tells him he'll walk the rest of the way. When Cutty decides to leave, Michael hides behind a corner until he's gone, than walks in the direction Cutty's going. That's why he goes off on his little rant to Dukie and Randy about everyone being too friendly. He isn't able to say what he actually means.

Dude, it was in the third or fourth episode of season 4. One of the girls stabs another girl who was making fun of her. When talking about the incident later, the principles tries to reassure Prez that the girl didn't have aids, so at least there was no risk of infection.

Enlightening moment is enlightening :o !

Hope Marlo doesn't fuck him up too good, even though that is bound to be highly unlikely.

Well, that wasn't "stabbing" per se

But I remember now, that shit was rough !
