First look with some pictures!

Having received a full thirteen episode series order based on the strength of its pilot episode directed by David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT), NBC's "Hannibal" is well on its way insofar as filming goes. Now technically that thirteen episode series order is, considering the network on which the show will air, only a half-season - meaning you can look for "Hannibal" to first hit sometime in early 2013.

Meanwhile there are the pictures. They're not very much to go on, but even from these few scant glimpses alone I find myself reassured that Hugh Dancy was a very solid choice for the part of FBI Agent Will Graham - everything from his clothes to the way he holds himself reminds me of William Petersen in MANHUNTER, and I like that idea very much indeed. Mikkelsen is of course gleefully off even just in the one photo, and I can't wait to see the performance he's rocking for this particular character. More as we hear it and that premiere episode's air date draws closer.

So what do you think? Based on these pictures, are you digging what series creator Brian Fuller is cooking up?

I didn't actually know this was in the works, but it looks great, with Mads Mikkelsen in the role of Lecter.

Neither did I.

I know several actors have now played Hannibal Lecter, but to me, no one will ever surpass Anthony Hopkins.

Fo' sho', when someone like Hopkins does a role like his portrayal of Dr Lector, anyone else can merely emulate him, or be forced to completely reinvent, and likely destroy the character.

The irony is, he wasn't even the first actor to play the character.

I third that I had no idea this was even a thing. Although I want to immediately dismiss the idea of a Hannibal TV show, the cast here has me interested. Big fan of Larry Fishburne and Mads Mikkelsen both.

I would qualify that with "...in Silence of the Lambs." Hopkins really phoned it in with Hannibal, and was only marginally better in Red Dragon.

I'll see it just for Mikkelsen alone. Having Fishburne on board as well is great, I'll definitely keep an ear out for this.

So how is this going to be ? Like Silence Of The Lambs but with a new case each week ?

Not much hope for this if that's the show dynamic.

It almost seems like someone's idea of a joke. None of these elements really go together: Hannibal Lecter, weekly TV show, Mads Mikkelsen.

This show might be the strangest pop culture development since Eddie Izzard played Grampa Munster.

There's something weird in the air.
