So apparently, Michael Bay is producing a new live-action TMNT movie, in which the turtles are no longer mutated, but aliens instead.

http://screenrant.com/michael-bay-teena ... dy-159820/

The director in question is Johnathan Liebesman, who is director of Wrath of the Titans, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (which Bay also produced on) and Battle: Los Angeles.

Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec are writing the screenplay. If anyone saw MI4, let me know how that was because they wrote it.

If this is an April Fool's prank, it sure has a lot of people raging. Release date is set for 12/25/13.

edit: bitchy rant, as provided to us by feliciano

in the comics the ooze that mutated them was created by a group of aliens known as the Utroms.

Yes, but the turtles themselves are still from Earth originally.

I feel divided on this:

On the one hand, it kind of ruins the whole "mutant" aspect of the Ninja Turtles.

But on the other hand, the comic was originally meant to be a parody anyways, so it's kinda hard to take any of these seriously.

Either way, it's still going to be a shitty film.

it also ruin the Teenage bit, the Ninja bit, and the Turtles bit

if they're aliens they aren't teenage, they just act like teenagers.
if they're aliens they can't be ninjas, they just happen to fight exactly like ninjas by coincidence
if they're aliens they aren't turtles, they just happen to look like turtles.

I'm hoping that it turns out that Bay was just talking shit, and what he actually meant was that aliens created the turtles by accident or something. but them being raised in the sewers by Splinter and living on discarded pizza and trickled down pop culture is what makes the TMNT the TMNT!

My friends and I were raging about this the other day.

And we agreed that Michael Bay must be killed. Anyone who wants to help me pool some money for his hitman will be doing a great service to your fandom.

Doubt it. Considering how much money all of the "Bayformers" film have made, I think this film is going to come out regardless of quality.

Honestly, it's not really surprising that Bay is going this route. Aliens--and especially alien invasions--are the new hotness right now, and I'm certain that this was a conscious move to make some kind of connection with Transformers.

Which makes no sense. But then again, the Turtles themselves make no sense either.

So the question is: How many of us will actually go see this film?
Answer: All of us.

i'll rent it.

and we'll see who is going to direct it before assuming it will get made, Bay is only a producer.

Uh, speak for yourself. Even if this was great I doubt I would watch it.

Actually, you're kind of wrong here. Anyone can be a ninja if they train in Ninjitsu. I'm sure if an Alien practiced the art for long enough they could be considered a ninja.

I think he's thinking they would already be ninjas on whatever planet they come from, not that they come to Earth and then become ninjas.

Yeah that's what I meant, if they came to earth as kids and then trained as ninjas, that would be fair though.

The project is currently being directed by Jonathan Liebesman, who previously made the shitty, shitty misfire we call "Battle: Los Angeles." He also helmed "Wrath of the Titans," which is set to premiere next week.

From where I'm sitting, this project lives and dies on how well "Wrath" does. If it tanks, the Turtles will go back into development hell until Liebesman moves on and gets replaced by someone else. If it makes money (and it will, because who are we fucking kidding?), expect this reboot to get the fast track.
