The sequel to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes will arrive in summer 2014…

It’s little surprise this one, but Fox has officially confirmed its planned sequel to the very strong Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Rise managed to resurrect a franchise that was looking utterly dormant, with Rupert Wyatt’s film firmly putting in the past Tim Burton’s disastrous reboot of sorts a decade earlier.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes was a sizeable box office and critical hit, banking nearly half a billion dollars in cinemas alone. The follow-up will, it’s been confirmed, go by the name of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, with Wyatt once more directing. This is good news.

What’s more, the release date for the film has been announced, too: you can expect it on May 23rd 2014. That's pretty much everything we've got on the film at the moment, but as more emerges, we'll send it your way. Or, more realistically, post it on the site...

not a bad choice for the name, no less of a mouthful than RiseOTPOTA was, but no more of one either.

They really should change the title. Something like "Conquest of the Apes" would get the point across nicely.

Anyway, note the release date. The sequel is coming out in late May. RotPotA came out last August. Bumping the franchise from a late summer release to a late May release is a huge promotion, especially since early May is traditionally the release window for Marvel's huge releases.

This is a huge show of confidence, and I hope it's justified.

Well, at least we won't be getting "Misunderstood Monster" bullshit this time around.

If I remember correctly the may 2014 Marvel slot is still "undecided" but heavy speculation is a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which is a lesser known (dare I say C-List) property and as such going against GotG wouldn't be like going against Iron Man 3, Cap 2, or Thor 2.
