Interested? Not even slightly.

It wasn't incredibly long ago I was dead set against this.
The original may have outdated effects, but otherwise its a damn solid movie.
Its a classic in every way that counts.

However, this reboot looks to be shaping up to be just that.
Much more of a reboot and much less of a beat for beat remake.
It would be pointless to tread the ground over since the first one did it so well.
But it looks to me like they're just trying to tell an interesting, and hopefully compelling fresh story with familiar trappings.
I can bite into that.

Am I the only one getting a vibe that Murphy won´t be dead by the time the robotics are inserted, but saved because of them?

And damn, that is one hell of a supporting cast...

I'm getting a vibe that Robocop might be ripping off a certain videogame that already ripped it off

some bits are clearly intentional homages to robocop though, like the fact it's set in Detroit. you can even find officer Murphy's desk in the police station, and overhear him and another officer talking about the movie.

The Murphy bit and the guys talking about the movie is a easter egg. As to Detroit, there a very specific reason why it´s set there. The car industry went kaput, and it was Sariff and the augmentation industrty that pulled Detroit from the shit. There´s no ripping off per se.

that's what I'm saying, it's not a rip off, the writers of the game clearly saw parallels between the stories and paid homage to them, that's not ripping off, that's reverence.

I'd have liked them to had a "Superman Returns" approach to this, and reboot just to where the first one left it...

Ah, who am I trying to kid. I won't like this no matter what. At least there's some capable people behind it, hope you guys can make something out of it.

Curse you, Frank Miller, for destroying the RoboCop franchise!

Have hope friend, Padilha has proven himself as a capable director, at the very least he deserves to take his shot.

That raises an interesting point: No matter how Padilha does, he's not going to make the franchise any deader.

Well that's a........positive thought  ?

We could really have a lot more to talk about here if you guys saw the Elite Squad movies, they are really good and they show just how Padilha could contribute to this franchise.

question,

Does it matter if I see the second one first?

Yeah, actually it does. There´s a lot of character development that goes from one movie to another...

Yeah, and that's the reason why I'm not rioting all over the internet about it!
I have the same feelings as with the Total Recall reboot. No matter how good the reboot is, Verhoeven's RoboCop will still be the perfect movie for me. And nothing can live up to that.
I will be happy if Padilha suceeds, but the RoboCop I love will never come back, sadly.

Compare that picture to the teaser thumbnail at omnicorp.com. They don't match at all. If that's a legitimate design test, it's obviously a very early one.

Plus, haven't they said a bunch you're going to be able to see his eyes?
At first I thought that would suck...
but then I started sketching a few ideas of what it might look like.
This was my favorite:
Image
Image

My idea was, the visor, would trigger different colors and opacities as he would switch to different vision modes,
i.e. infared, etc etc
and for intimidation, it could go reflective like those aviators cops wear.
Or solid black when he doesn't want anyone to see his eyes.
Glint of human emotion there Murph?
