Fox has officially set Chronicle helmer Josh Trank to direct the reboot of Fantastic Four, and the film will be the next Marvel property to be slated for production and dated for release by the studio. Fantastic Four, which will include a new cast, falls into line after The Wolverine sequel that starts production shortly, and the Matthew Vaughn-directed X-Men: First Class, which is also on a fast track. After Trank’s breakthrough with the Fox sleeper hit Chronicle he has been offered everything and attached himself to several projects. But I’m told that Fox expects Fantastic Four to be the next film he directs.

The thing with this is, right after the release of Chronicle, there were rumours of this, and then Trank came out and said that he knew nothing of it, and had not been approached by Fox, and now again, it seems it's practically official that F4 is what he'll be doing next.
either it was a rumour first and someone at fox heard it and thought "why not" and they approached him
or they approached him and he wasn't allowed to talk about it.
if the second is true, I'm guessing the new F4 reboot is a lot closer than we think, i.e. getting ready to go into pre-prod.

Hope that it tanks hard...

And here´s hoping that after Slade bailed out of the Daredevil reboot, they can´t get a replacement and it reverts to Marvel.

^hope not the marvel movies sorry but they all kind of suck i actually prefer x men first class over TIH,Thor,Cap,IM2

marvel films are too cookie cutter and all have the same formula with their family friendly style they always tend to do and they taker zero risks their films are not very ambitious

i'd prefer a F4 is the vain of say Prometheus and go hard sci fi

Let me clear this up. You both suck.

As much as I was underwhelmed by Chronicle, I'm actually really excited for this now that I hear Trank is directing it. Should be an honest effort if nothing else.

Now I haven't read a ton of Fantastic Four, but does this seem wrong to anyone else?

I get where you are coming from, that would be kind of interesting. But what villain would they use?

An idea would be to go First Class style and set it in the 60s during the space race or something.

You said "hard" sci-fi, though. I'm not sure that's compatible with the tone the Fantastic Four comics have set. I imagine it should be more fantastical and not necessarily grounded in scientific fact. I mean, do we really need to see a realistic, gritty FF movie?

Like I said in the Wolverine thread, if Fox is going to keep making comic book movies to spite Marvel, at least they're putting effort into it.

There isn't a doubt in my mind that Trank is a fine choice to direct this movie. He's already better-qualified than Tim Story ever was.

I'm rather happy for this news.

I enjoyed Chronicle a lot, F4 definitely needs a reboot after the last two disasters (the only things I enjoyed were the costumes).

Nope, The FF are far and away more scientists/explorers than they are Super Heroes.

I meant the "hard" sci-fi part specifically, as I said in that one other post.

Or did I misinterpret Project's post and am the only one using the actual definition of the term "hard" science fiction? Because that would explain a lot.

Read Hickman's run... and you'll see where he's coming from

I think you are misinterpreting, for a start he mentioned Prometheus, and that's not particularly hard Sci Fi, from the POV of a sci fi fan, even if it's probably very hard from the POV of a regular joe, compared to things like Star Wars, Prometheus is about as "Hard" as Avatar.

It could work, doubt anyone as high profile as Theron would be picked, but the suit would make a good F4 suit.

That suit? No.

Any comic book from Fox has a 90% chance of being shit. And looking at the sample, First Class is the exception that makes rule.

These were the guys that wanted to shut down production of Daredevil on account of the director wanting Jennifer Garner hair not loose on a scene.

These were the guys that undermined Singer since day 1, and when they finally kicked him out, the rushed X3 just to screw with Singer.

These were the guys that got the very talented director of Taxi to do the first two FF.

Does one back these guys?

Sad fact:they should stick to stuff like My Super Ex-Girlfriend.They can do whatever they want, get all the profit, don´t spend money on rights, and screw with people´s expectations...
