Good news: Marvel just made it official.

Perplexing news: The news release only refers to the character as "Ant-Man." No mention is made as to which version of the character Rudd is playing. Curiouser and curiouser.

CVool, now the question is, will he appear on Avengers 2?

A part of me wishes that Ultron is Iron Man influenced because Ultron was Pym´s attempt at a Iron Man suit.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Ant-man turns out to be a heist movie. Wright's original idea for the film was to have Hank Pym in the 60's develop the Pym Particle tech and then flash forward to the current generation with Scott Lang. And Scott is an eventually reformed thief. So it'd make a lot of sense if Rudd was playing Scott rather than Pym and it'd make for a more intriguing premise as well.

So.........Scott Lang, not Hank Pym then.

Sounds good to me. Besides, it's not like Hank Pym is this fascinating character with a fascinating origin.

In the grander scheme of things he serves his purpose very well.Plus, the Avengers are short on wife beaters right now.

Does he, though? The most interesting thing he ever did was create Ultron and that's probably not happening anyway.

I think he's always had potential as the "supreme scientist" of the Marvel Universe, aside from having a pretty cool bit of backstory with the spousal abuse.

Problem is he's had so many alter-egos through the years he's lost a lot of power (or perhaps impact) as a character.

does anyone think that James Spader might play Hank Pym and Paul Rudd might be Scott Lang

Maybe Spader is playing a younger Pym... I don't know!

Now the film has a composer.

Fresh off his BAFTA win for the Gravity score, Steven Price will be scoring Ant-Man. This is also the same guy who scored The World's End and Attack the Block.

I am entirely cool with this.

Patrick Wilson all but confirms his involvement, says he has read the script and does not deny he will be in the movie, says it's an important role. so yeah. I'm guessing he will be Pym in flashbacks.
