I saw "Iron Man" last night at a press screening. It was very good — a slick, polished movie with fun performances by everybody involved and really incredible special effects. You can't tell what's CGI and what's practical. Robert Downey is perfect, as is Terrence Howard. Even Gwyneth Paltrow does a good job. And all the nods to Marvel Comics continuity really add a fun layer for comic book fans — but you don't need to know the comics at all to enjoy the film.

That said, it still ranks behind "Batman Begins" and the first "Spider-Man," if only because "Iron Man" sacrifices emotional drama for fun escapism (which isn't necessarily bad for a summer movie), but it has lots of great, likeable characters, impactful action, and badass special effects.

Great exciting report!
I am going this Friday, and was praying for a good review!

Well what I've heard is that Favreau is more an actor's director, so the action scenes really lack length...
Yeah the trailer was amazing! I think it might turn out to be a 300 affair....
really great trailer expanded into a feature length film!

Its funny how close the Onion gets...

Yeah, I remember seeing a behind-the-scenes video where Iron Man's mask closes and thinking "Damn, I thought that was CGI!"

The reviews are raving across the board and I'm going to see it Saturday. Can't wait.

Yes, the Metacritic and RT ratings are very very high
TF and Empire seemed fairly solid, very similar reviews though...
I guess I'll see for myself shortly!

I saw the movie last night. Definately worth the ticket price. But, it was a little too comedic for my taste. The fight at the end against the Iron Monger wasn't that great. the Pepper Pott's character seemed insignificant to me. Other than that, it was a good popcorn flick. I liked all the little references to the Marvel universe such as, War Machine, The Mandarin, S*H*I*E*L*D, etc. A lot better than Elektra, F4, Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3, and Hulk, but no where as good as Batman Begins and the first two Spider-Man movies. *****SPOILERS*****
My favorite scene however, didn't take place during the actual movie. It came afterwards after the credits. The character of Nick Fury was introduced. And yes, he is the Ultimates version with Sam Jackson as Fury. He shows up in Stark's home and tells him he's there to talk to him about Project Avengers! Everyone left in the theater cheered and clapped when he said that!

It was a fun movie. I can't imagine they would produce a sequel, though. Story's a bit thinly spread, but the performances are great.

Paltrow outshines the CGI. Which is a healthy sign for this old geek.

Yeah I liked the film, it was somewhere between the good (Fantastic 4, Daredevil, X-Men 3) and the great (X-Men/Spiderman 1/2).
And yes absolutely Sam Jackson's bit was awesome!
With the Avengers movie referred to in the film, I think it has a better chance of actually being made than JLA, plus I reckon they might get all the proper actors (RDJ, Ed N etc)

really good... just an overall fun flick!

+SPOLIER+...i guess
the weakest performance for me was Paltrow....she is not the actress thats ready to be screaming at giant machinery that wants to get her.

Just got back from seeing it. It was a very fun movie.

There was just one problem I had, though maybe someone else can answer this: *Why didn't Stark die at the end? We clearly see his arc reactor flicker out and his suit was running on empty, so how is it possible that he could be alive and happy in the very next shot?*

Spoiler Someone told me that maybe the end when he says 'I am Iron Man' is a dream sequence so perhaps he's in a coma? I don't believe that myself though
No I reckon they've got something planned for the sequel to reveal why he's not dead... did you hear the references to the 10 rings?
:D

I was at the finnish premiere of the movie.
In my opinion Iron Man is the best superhero movie so far and the scene after credits was awesome.

It was a decent flick. just watched it today. You can't over analyse (or 'analyze' for our american readers) whether some parts are logic or not, like the part where the soldiers were standing beside the Jericho missile launch, you'd think they would get burnt or be deaf or something. :P Just go ahead and enjoy it.

......but damn, i left the cinema early! I know i should've waited untill the end of the credits!

I just saw it today. It was an OK flick. Downey carries the whole movie. The part where he actual builds the thing in the cave bothers me, a bit. It's like, "that doesn't look like a missile! Let's investigate.....after this game of backgammon!".

Yeah, her acting was pretty week. Personally, I think they should have cast Leslie Bibb in that role instead. (Yowza ;) )

As for an Avengers movie, I would think they would introduce Captain America in his own movie first. Would you really want to introduce his character this way?
