It's pretty terrible, but hey, I love Jake Gyllenhaal.

Hardly surprising. Our look at Batman's costume was proof enough that Frank Miller's work will be a significant influence on this DC superfranchise. And that should be reason to panic.

Why's that? I know Frank Miller's nuts, but The Dark Knight Returns is one of the best comics ever made.

Point taken. As long as we're dealing with pre-9/11 Miller, we should be okay.

I'll add to Curi by saying that maybe the filmmakers should learn there are other Batman comics other than TDKR.

It's one thing to have a Batman or even a Superman based or inspired by it, it's another to make it the entire basis of your cinematic universe. Which isn't even what is happening, but it sure seems like it.

If you're talking about Dawn of Justice, Snyder has already said you're wrong.

I'm not sure how he means. The Superman in TDKR is a pawn of the American government where Man of Steel made it clear that was not the case.

Speaking of being inspired by TDKR, "According to sources, in the film Batman is some sort of big boogeyman that the government REALLY hates. Get this, prior to the events in #BatmanvSuperman, THE JOKER is the only one to really ever meet him or know him and that’s why he’s so important to Amanda Waller. They have footage of Batman in action which they watch. There is a bit of dialogue where they say Batman is the key to tracking down all “the supers.”

That sounds...neat.

Agreed. It gives a sort of mythical quality to Batman and Joker both. And it gives the US judicial system a reason to keep Joker alive instead of putting the bastard on death row.

Yeah, it makes sense on a lot of levels so I hope it's true. It also makes Batman feel fresh to the universe even though he's been around for awhile. We're meeting this Batman the same time the fictional public will be.
