Hmmm I don't know if I've seen Viola Davis in anything, but she's not very heavy. Is that even her picture?

She isn't. She's a very good actress, though.

Yah.

Is that her picture? She looks heavier, but also older. What's the deal with that?

Also, The New 52 and Arrow aren't high benchmarks of quality so...

Well, no. It's typically thought of as one of the best comics of the 80's. Especially when it comes to mainstream superhero books.

Pretty much any comic with supervillains as protagonists uses it as a model.

lol, It was decent at best. Fun, sure. But not exactly fantastic stuff.
Dude, we were basically saying 'borrow' and 'pass' to three out of every five issues.
For every REALLY good issue, there was another several that were painstakingly dull or mediocre.
It was popcorn entertainment when it was at it's best, but regardless of public opinion, it's not a fantastic comic.

I don't mean to be a snob, but you're in the minority on that one. Like, did you finish it? The first half has some varying stuff, but the second half is really solid. Like, no issues are passes.

I thought the overall comic was pretty good, but not great. But it did have some great issues and moments, and yes, it did get better.

That's awesome. The half that we didn't read in the group was the good half. Whatever.

Well, it's not anyone's fault that Oscar's schedule imploded in on itself.

No, I'm just saying we read through half of an entire comic run and it was good/mediocre.
If it hadn't been for the group, I would've stopped reading.
It's just like people who say, "Oh the show gets better in season 5!"
No! If that's the case, it's not a good show. It just got lucky later on.
I hate reading stuff with the promise "It'll get better!"
If it's not hooking me in five issues, I'm skeptical. Ten... twenty, thirty? How many mediocre issues do I have to thumb through for it to become a benchmark of quality?

Well, that's just you. I already thought it was good in the first half, it's just that in the second half, there are no weak issues.

It was worth it because it was fun, but calling it a benchmark of quality felt like a huge stretch to me.
You still should've joined in broski. Would've been cool.

If that's what you feel, that's fine, but I'm just saying it seems to be what the movie is basing itself on and it's also a hugely influential work in the comics medium. It's basically by definition a benchmark of quality whether or not you agree with the fact that it should be.

Tom Hardy Drops Out Due To Scheduling Conflicts,Jake Gyllenhaal Eyed to Replace Tom Hardy in David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’ (Exclusive)
Quote:
Jake Gyllenhaal may not have received an Oscar nomination for “Nightcrawler” on Thursday but he could still end the day with a win, as David Ayer is courting his “End of Watch” star to replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg in “Suicide Squad,” multiple individuals familiar with the comic book project have told TheWrap.

Warner Bros. had no comment, while a representative for Gyllenhaal didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hardy was forced to exit the project because Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s “The Revenant” is going over schedule into mid-March, after which Hardy will be needed to promote WB’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which comes out on May 15. “Suicide Squad” is expected to start production in April, and that time crunch is why Hardy had to drop out of the film.
