As many members on this forum probably do, i love star wars and i love graphic novels. I was thinking it would only make sense for me to read some graphic novels from the star wars universe. Any recommendations as to which ones are actually good?

Stories that have no sequel or prequel.

You know, like Watchmen.

actually, a one-shot is comic featuring a character (or more than one) from an ongoing series - but this is a one issue (usually more than the normal 32 pages) complete story away from the continuing storyline.

frank miller did a few for sin city (collected in "booze, broads and bullets") and many star wars one-shots have featured boba fett, and many apprentices and minor characters.

one-shots are usually just to feature a good story that doesn't fit into continuity... or for a character that doesn't "deserve", so to speak, it's own series

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-shot_(comics)

imagine moore and gibbons doing a 42 page complete moloch story... and that would qualify as a one shot

oh, and one-shots can be done by a completely different writer/artist team from the series

i would recommend these two... especially the first, if you can get your hands on them, that is...

Star Wars Crimson Empire is a very good graphic novel. It tells how an empiral guard comes to be. Also the Boba Fett graphic novels are good.

Star Wars produced some kick-ass comics and graphic novels. I don't think even the likes of Marvel and DC have been able to maintain such a congruous, harmonious "universe" the way Star Wars has. Every book, GN, video game, and TV show feeds a larger "Expanded Universe," and Star Wars has done a better job of world-building; with its multitude of species and cultures and technologies that all seem to be part of a larger society; than anything else. Everything portrayed is just convincing, feasible, and believable enough to seem part of a larger cultural fabric. Everything effects everything. It was my irrational love of all things Star Wars that got me into comics, and it was comics that eventually supplanted my love affair with the galaxy far, far away.

Alan Moore actually did some Star Wars comics. He's admitted he doesn't know much about the series, which is why he had Luke Skywalker practicing lightsaber techniques in his X-Wing in one issue. Dark Horse reprinted some of his stories a few years ago as "Classic Star Wars" I think. Generally, I've been pleased with their 'Star Wars Tales' series.

Well...

I would recomend the history of Biggs Darklighter (it's really good) and, well, it's not a graphic novel, but the first volume of Dark Times (The Path To Nowhere).

I read a bunch of Sith comics years ago. They were damn good, and there's probably a collected version around somewhere.

Star Wars comics were my first comics.
I would recommend any of the star wars tales comics, and the Jango Fett graphic novel "Four Seasons".
