Really, though, I've taken an interest in this series and I'd like to attempt at keeping up with it.

I just read the prologue which I thought was interesting enough.

Heard a Matt Fraction interview about the event.

I now think the man is an asshole.

It's just an impression he gave me, hopefully it won't affect the quality of the comic itself (HA!).

But ComicVine was making him an interview on Fear Itself, on one of the questions they asked if there was going to be some conflict between this whole "secret Red Skull mission" and the marvel continuity, given that this mission had some pretty revealing stuff.

Fraction blanked and answered that the story always has priority over "silly trivia", and that making sense of things is not his job, it's that of the guys who work at making the Marvel Encyclopedias.

You know he's right. It's the same over Star Wars. There is a guy who goes to every single writer adding something to the Expanded universe and try to talk out of some things that contradicts the rest of the stuff.

There is something called RESEARCH, which every responsible writer should do, you know ?

With Marvel, the same with SW, sometimes the deadlines are fuckign awful. And, really, sometimes research that kind of stuff takes you more time than actually writing something. Few guys like Morrison work like that, and just because they are silver-age wankers.

In any case, I will read this because, well, I dont have anything else to read.

Well, it surely must be a pain in the ass to do the research, but the more you do at one point, the more you will learn and the less you'll have to look for in the future whenever you need it.

And quite frankly, one shouldn't complain about boot camp if one wants to be soldier.

So... did anyone else get a totally Karnak vibe from the Nazi's Antartica base in FI #1?

Didn't read it yet, but I'll go do that now.

Same, let's see if Fraction is up to snuff.

Over all I'd say that the Fear Itself issue was superb, and has me wanting more

the home front tie-in was kind of average

Just finished # 1, it wasn't bad, but I wasn't on the edge of my seat either.

On the good side, Fraction kept his word, I didn't saw a goddamn checklist at the end of the issue, so that PROBABLY means that everything we need is in the seven issues of the main series, and hopefully no tie-ins will be necessary.

I also liked Odin in his "prime-asshole-father" role, really cool that they played on his relationship with Thor, and I'm interested to see just HOW will the avengers deal with the god of fear without the help of thy thunder god !

But you also didn't like Shadowland... so your opinion shall not be considered

Nah, I agree. It was alright, but it wasn't anything amazing. Of course, it's the first issue so I expected most of it to be exposition anyway.
