So I'm pretty sure we all know about this, and I was just interested in hearing people's thoughts.
I personally am glad that they aren't getting a dime, it's clear that they were only acting out of greed.
I'm not going to go to my ancestor's employer and say that they should give me lots of money because they didn't pay my ancestor enough (even though he contractually agreed to work for that wage).

May the forces of New Genesis and Apokolyps rain down unholy wrath on my apartment and tear me to pieces.

For I did not know about these news.

As you tell it, this seems similar to the case against DC Comics for the Superman rights, if it is somehow similar, then I can only side with Marvel, UNLESS Kirby expressedly (sp) stated in his will that the rights of his creations should pass on to his descendants.

I'd only add that Kirby's creations have passed through many hands since his time. I think it's entirely possible that Captain America newcomers would be directed to Ed Brubaker and Thor newbies to J. Michael Stracynski before either would be pointed to Kirby's original work. So many people have nurtured these icons over the years that the creations are much bigger than any one creator.

To that end, the Kirby estate needs to accept that their ink-and-paper relatives have grown up and moved out. Unless the Kirby lawyers can point to a specific contract agreement -- printed out in black and white -- and prove that Marvel reneged on it, they don't have a leg to stand on.

Well the thing is that the case is finished, Marvel won, I just wanted to know how people felt and where their allegiances were.
Here's something interesting:

I guess their only cause could be that Kirby didn't got the wages he properly deserved back then.

Then again, I don't think people in the comic book industry get paid a lot.

No, they probably don't. Just ask Alan Moore.

...Too soon?

Kind of a bad example, because Kirby didn't write those... also, it was his intellectual property, sure those guys have both done things with the characters that Kirby created... the point remains Kirby created them.

That being said it always pisses me off when families like this get mad because they aren't recieving the money their grandparents earned... but they never did anything to earn it. If any of them had suggested the character or something then I could see it, or if Kirby made a deal saying his family gets his money then I could get behind them... but as is... no, they should get nothing.

I was actually going to link to that in my original post... but didn't.

You of course knew that because we're the same person
