Thanks, I'll consider it - but Im in a dorm with a shared sink. Might be more work then I want to do before next week.

Opinions on the brown or black though?

Ah understandable, well personally I'd go for the black then.
Perhaps a few more people would be kind enough to give you their opinion.

I'd go for black also. I'm going to do the same.

I'd suggest gray instead of black, actually.

Definitely not brown. Too warm.

What do you guys think of doing a Roschach costume without the jacket I know it's just the one part in Moloch's place but I still think it's different. Oh and I don't want to spend the 60 bucks for a full length trench and altering it shorter.

Dude, you dont have to spend 60 bucks on a trench coat. I bought mine at a thrift store for 15. In all the entire costume cost me around 80. The most expensive part was the fedora.

I have a fedora, but it's black with a white bow. Should I cover it up or something? Help!

here's my fedora with the purple ribbon:

it's a Jaxon Iconoclast in Brown from Village Hat Shop (http://www.villagehatshop.com few other people recommended this hat on here). what I did was go to Joann Fabrics and find a spool of 1½" purple ribbon. I have a huge head (hat size was XL) and I estimated 30" would be good to fit around the fedora, so you could certainly use the "by the yard" option at the store and buy one or two 3 foot lengths of it (two if you think you might mess up royally somehow). it covered up the brown band that came with the hat just fine.

in fact, because it was a cheaper hat, the band wasn't tied into a bow, the two ends were glued together and there's a movable ring of matching fabric that covers this up. I attached opposite pieces of velcro to each end of the ribbon I bought, stuck them together, and covered up the meet point with that brown ring. I think the purple folding in with the two tone (purple ribbon/brown ring) like it does looks kinda neat.

long story short, go pickup some 1½" thick plain purple ribbon, wrap it around your fedora, and figure out how you wanna hide or tie the meet point.

Looking good bgbopper, I think the Leather trench would work well. I believe the one used in the movie is waxed coated canvas, but they are really hard to come by in that tan brown colour.

Thanks! I just lost the auction though minutes ago :x  I had my max bid at $111.51 USD and someone got it for $114.51. In a way, I'm glad, cause I can't believe I set such a high bid for myself, haha

so I just ran to a thrift store that had the coat I want (only $9), and I just got back from doing jose's technique of beating it up in my driveway with a rake lol rubbed it in the grass a little too, used coffee grounds, and a bottle of fake blood

http://img368.imageshack.us/img368/4610/coatjk1.jpg

not going with any particular frame for the coat, and I didn't try to mimic the big splat stain in the latter half of the book, just wanted to make it look like Rorschach is more concerned with getting things done than how he looks :)

can't wait to put it all together! soaking my pants in purple dye right now, hopefully tomorrow night I'll be able to try it all on together.

I do not remember seeing this mentioned anywhere.

What kind of shoes/boots does he wear? Anyone have an example?

I've almost finished with my costume - planning on using three layers of nylons and sharpie for the mask. I've read elsewhere that the nylons are actually *easier* to see through once they have sharpie on them. Is that true? 'Cause I have to decide which inkblot design I want...

It's definitely true. Once the ink part gets in front of your eyes, you'll see much more clearly.

I think I mentioned this in my first post. Can't remember. Anyway Rorschach wears Chelsea Boots in the comic like this

Not sure what the movie costume is using can't quite make em out, but if theyv'e done their homework they would be using the same thing.

I would also be interested in this. Also, someone said something about the Joker costume made by a Chinese company - can anyone provide a link to the best Joker costume to use for Rorschach's suit?

edit: Chelsea boots? Awesome! btw how'd you find this out?

ALSO! any tips on the nylons mask? Should I use the toe end or the thigh end and any specific tips on cutting/sewing it?

let me ellaborate on my last entry. my fedora is one of those leg avenue gangster hats. it's black with white pinstripes and a white band around it. i colored in the white parts with permanent marker, but now i'm afraid that my costume is going to look silly. any suggestions?

This isn't the final mask, it's just all I have right now... I plan on doing the nylons thing. I'll post the final costume when it's done!

Well the Chelsea boots can be clearly seen in the comic. But just to make double sure I asked this guy a few weeks back, he's very knowledgable on the subject :)

Just have to say I'm very impressed by everyone's costumes so far. They are all very good! :) And THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who posted any kind of help - it all came in handy!

Here is my shot at it:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62/Fender117/Picture055.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y62/Fender117/Picture056.jpg

The mask is the 3-nylon method that was mentioned earlier in the thread. I cut small eye-holes in the black layer and they are barely or not even visible. I photoshopped the design, printed it, and used a box cutter to make it into a stencil, I then stretched the mask over a clipboard, using binder-clips to stretch it out. Then I just filled it in with a sharpie. This works quite well if you don't have someone else to draw it for you.

I got the hat, scarf, trench coat and the dark purple/navy-blue pinstripe suit (not visible) at Value Village/Savers. The purple ribbon for the hat was from Michael's, an arts/crafts supply store.

I had old black leather gloves and black dress shoes that are similar enough to his boots to work. The pants will be over them all the time anyway! :P

I will definitely find a better trench coat, boots, and spend more time on the mask for next Halloween but, still being in highschool, my budget was quite small this year (Everything was about $60). Although, I am pleased how everything came together :)
