It's in my top 20, and I am VERY Conservative.

I liked Bush, and still do, so that should be clue enough for you.

One of my favorite books, up there with 1984.

Socially I'm liberal, economics wise I'm moderate.

Dr. Brooklyn, you just went up a notch in my book. Watchmen's in my top 3 or 5, and I'm a libertarian.

Watchmen to me is one of the most incredible [graphic] novels I have ever read, and I am a huge fan of literature and writing.

Although I have a kinship with Rorschach, who is generally accepted to be a conservative, I used to be supremely liberal...I've calmed down a bit and I consider myself an Independent, taking views from all over the spectrum. I like being able to think objectively and see things through different eyes of different opinions. (:

I wouldn't say I have any political "party" per say, because it's stupid to ally one self to a party and not ideals or people.

I'm conservative, not republican.

I really loved the book.

As for political affiliation... I'd say I'm an Idependent. I'm a registered Democrat just to piss off my dad (teenage rebellion! ), but I generally just go with what I feel to be most morally right by me.

Watchmen is easily my favorite book of all time.

I find being loyal to a particular party rather limiting, so I don't actually consider myself a Republican but I am extremely conservative pretty much across the board (with the exception of a couple key social issues).

Major props for this topic, by the way! Interesting stuff. :D

Anyone want to offer up more specific information? I'd be interested in knowing if there's any correlation between political affiliation and feelings about the issues in Watchmen. (Veidt's plan, Rorschach’s methods, vigilantism, etc.)

Interesting... Like I said I'm conservative

I personally agree with Truman but not with Veidt. Mainly because my grandpa was on the list to g from germany to japan and thus I may not be here had the land invasion occured.

I also agree with Rorschach's methods, so does my dad who hasn't read the book, but after explaining them to him he said that he's glad to hear about characters like rorschach and will probably watch the DVD with me.

Vigilantism... I'm still undecided.

ooh, a two-part question! First part's easy, second part, not so.

WATCHMEN -- favorite "comic book" by miles, among my top five novels.

Political affiliation -- all over the place. Right-wing reactionary on some issues, revolutionary socialist on others. As a member of the American working class who feels increasingly dispossessed by coporate interests, I'm becoming Redder as I age, I fear, having beeen kicked around long enough and sick of it. I'm also an ardent Green. Probably tending toward progressive/liberal/democratic Socialist on economic issues; moderate liberal on most social issues; conservative, even reactionary, on fiscal policy and some social issues. I admire BOTH Roosevelts, Abe Lincoln, Bobby Kennedy, and Robert E. Lee, how's that for inconsistency? If I had to identify with an American political party, it might be the Bull Moose Party if it still existed. I also pay allegiance to the Raving Monster Loony Party (UK). So I just can't keep a straight face about these serious issues for long, sadly.

EDIT: Fifty posts, I'm a Vigilante now, woo-hoo!!

Hi there, newbie here :)

Watchmen is a classic graphic novel and a fantastic film adaption too. Can't wait to see the director's cut :)

As for politics - see myself as a realist: sometimes the "conservative" viewpoint may the best, sometimes the "liberal" or "democratic" one. I don't believe one should fanatically stick with a specific political party or side, or pigeonhole yourself - rather look at the logic and practicality of the specific pitch and decide if it makes sense in the real world.
