Well, I'm not really a dog person and I kind of felt like they were trying way to hard to be overly emotional. I have dogs, and they don't go... oh a stranger we'll just keep minding our own business even as he walks right up to us

Some do, but you can tell Guice isn't a very good owner and they're probably neglected and as such they are probably quite hostile.

Maybe, maybe not, still, it's a good story, it's really great how it also works in the Watchmen universe in a very similar manner to Tales Of The Black Freighter.

I have a really sweet German Shepherd of my own, so it's particularly depressing for me. But then again I get choked up really easy. Also, it reminded me of a very, very sad dog-gets-killed scene from another book I've recently been reviewing.
