I promised myself I would not give in and buy any of the merchandise for Watchmen, as the novel itself mocks superhero merchandising, but I just could not resist getting Series 1 of the action figures, as they looked so good and I do love action figures. My opinion of each figure follows:

Rorschach: I really like this figure of Walter, and think that DC Direct have done a fine job in capturing the likeness of the character. The only problem some people may have with him is the lack of articulation. His Legs are completely unmovable, but that is not really a problem for me as I tend to treat action figures as mini statues anyway and don't mind about minimal articulation. I have yet to see how he looks with the grappling gun, as I am too afraid to try and remove the fisted hand as it is stuck in tight and could get broken by trying too hard to get the thing out.

Silk Spectre: Laurie is like Rorschach, in that she has no articulation in her legs at all. This is more bizzarre in her case, as a knee joint or some some other form of leg articulation would have helped her stand up on her stand alot easier, as she tends to be very difficult to get in a decent standing position, whereas Rorschach stood on his base fine without any leg articulation. The sculpt of Silk Spectre is very good, and her paint job is great, as the whole suit has a glossy look to it. The hair is one single hard piece, so it limits her head movement considerably, meaning her only real articulation is in her arms, but as I said earlier, this does not really bother me. Paint and Sculpt are more important than articulation to me, so I have no problems with Laurie and Walters lack of movement.

Nite Owl: The Dan figure is brilliant. He is much more of a figure when compared to Rorschach or Silk Spectre, as he has articulation everywhere you would expect a figure to have articulation. The sculpt on him is great, and my only criticism would be that the paint job makes alot of the details, especially on the head, blend together (the goggle rims, strap and Dan's mask are all the same shade of brown).

Ozymandias: Adrian is my favourite of the figures, although I am biased as Adrian is my favourite character. He is lke Nite Owl, in that he is much more of a figure compared to the statuelike Rorschach and Silk Spectre, as he has articualtion where you would expect to find articulation. The paint job on Adrian is my favourite out of the bunch as well, as the purples, golds and blacks are all clearly defined and look great. The facial sculpt is a great likeness of the character as well.

P.S. - Would love a Bubastis. As soon as they're made I must have one. Regards to Josephine and your children.

If it helps, think of them as ironic replica props :P

I just purchased a Rorschach figurine for $16.95. I thought it was a pretty good deal. The best price I've seen was online so far, but with shipping costs it would've cost me a few cents more in the end. I really want to get that 1:6 scale version though. For the small figurines I think I'll likely pick up Night Owl II as well.

EDIT: Does anyone know where I could get the best price for a 1:6 scale Rorschach?

When I was testing out articulation and posing possibilities, I was twisting her head and hit it JUST right so it popped off in my hands. I freaked out at the weirdness of it, and then that I feared I broke it. =)

or ebay

I pre-ordered Series 1 & Series 2 as well as the Three Variants back in December I think. I know Watchmen itself kinda mocks the merchandise, but I really can't help myself. The figures look too nice and I think it'll look great to have a spot dedicated solely to Watchmen (Graphic Novel and Movie). Have Absolute Watchmen, all the figures, the movie posters, the original 1986 Rorschach Poster, the DVDs, etc., etc.

I'll post pictures of the entire action figure line once they come in, which will probably be post-movie release as the Rorscach/Walter Kovacs is the last one to be released and I selected the ship all at once option.

And for anyone that is interested in Kubrick or Be@rbrick, Medicome is releasing all the Crimebusters in both lines. I'd like to get them as I like them for neat little collectibles, but they are VERY expensive.

I haven't seen any of the figures in any of my local stores, not even my comic store in town... is it worth it trying to get them online or should I wait because I live in a tiny town in northern MI and we generally don't get good merch until AFTER the movie has become popular (Dark Knight stuff didn't show up until it started to become huge) Like my hot topic has three shirts, posters and a ketchain... aside from posters at spencer's and copies of the book at bookstores that's it for merch and I treally want an NO II figure.

I've gotten Rorschach and Nite Owl II off of the interwebs, and I'm pretty pleased with them. They look rather impressive, though I haven't had a chance to test out their articulation yet... (Because I haven't actually opened them...)

Am I the only one who does that? It's not because I want to sell them on later, but I have a few action figures already and haven't had the heart to remove any of them yet... They all just look so good in their packaging ... Especially my Watchmen ones...

Just got my Rorschach in the mail today. He has minimal articulation, as others have said, with basically only the arms. Great detail, and a great "mini" statue. Here are some pics. (sorry about the yellow light. I didn't think about opening the blinds  )

My Nite Owl and Ozymandias action figures just arrived. They look really good and I'm very pleased with both of them.

Both have enough points of articulation that most people want and I can move their limbs with ease. Ozymandias is very easy to pose. Nite Owl is because of his heavier body a bit more difficult to pose in a position in which he doesn't quickly fall down when you hit is softy, however this is my only very minor negative remark for the action figures.

Also, I found it rather funny that the box read: "Beware: small parts. Only for children above 3 years old. For 14 years and older"

I was surprised to see a whole bunch of figures at ToysRUs today including series 2 Comedian (didn't get him because I have a whole series 2 set and the variants on preorder already). He looks awesome up close! They still had lots of series 1 figs left. Series 2 is also showing up on ebay now as well as the variant of Comedian. My preordered Comedian variant is already waiting to be shipped, but I want to wait to get it all shipped together and save a few bucks.

Have people generally liked the Nite Owl figure?
I've been thinking about getting him so my Rorschach action figure can have a partner... erm... a CRIME FIGHTING partner of course... heh heh...
Have any pictures been posted of that figure?

Nite Owl is the awesome! His cape is amazing! Its rubbery, I didnt know they made toys like that now. His cape makes the figure badass, plus his crescent moon buckle is detachable.

Oh, they look perfect together.

If you do a google or ebay search, you'll find plenty of pictures. Here's one from DC Direct...

Tooting my own horn a little here, but I just scored a brand new Doc Manhattan 1/6 figure from ebay for a grand total of $50 after shipping and insurance is added in. Can't complain--they go for $99 at a lot of online stores and that's without shipping cost. I'm sure getting a Comedian or Rorschach 1/6 for anything under $80 total is going to be much more difficult if not impossible at least until the hype dies down.

Update: Figure arrived 2/26. Nice BIG window box with a velcro-closing cover flap and lots of nice graphics all over/inside. Comes with a stand to display Doc with a very subtle/nicely done hydrogen symbol on the base, but I'm leaving it boxed. I'd just about kill for a Rorschach or Comedian now that I've seen this one.
