I didn't say she was hated, only that she doesn't get half the credit or praise as the other characters.

I do like the covers. Silk Spectre and Comedian are my favorites.

I guess my main objection to more Watchmen stories is that I always liked how Watchmen was a single complete story,

Yet, the world of Watchmen is such a dense piece of work, that it's completely possibly add to it.

I just tire of the whole "ALAN MOORE IS A GOD, AND YOU SHOULDN'T MAKE NEW STORIES INVOLVING WATCHMEN BECAUSE THAT'S TERRIBLE AND MOORE SAID SO AND BLAH BLAH BLAH FUCKING BLAH!!!!"

Whether you'd like to admit it or not, the talent associated with these prequels are pretty impressive, and I'm curious to see what comes of it. I understand that Moore got royally screwed by DC, but I really don't have a problem with more stories set in the Watchmen universe.

I think the Jon and Laurie cover is definitely the worst, I don't dig it at all. However, the Silk Spectre one is fantastic. I also really dig the Ozymandias one. As for the Rorschach one, I think it was a cool idea executed well, although I admit that once you've seen it, it seems so obvious and in your face that it kind of ruins the "cool" factor for me.

I like Laurie, I don't hate her.

As someone else wrote, looks like Dr. Manhattan is doing to her on that cover what DC is doing to Alan Moore.

DC had to do something this year to equal the New 52 media attention from last year. It's all marketing. God knows what they'll do NEXT year to keep this trend going, maybe kill EVERYONE in the DC universe, or marry them all to each other, or have everyone have babies, or have everyone turn evil and fight each other.

It's all marketing and demographics. The original Watchmen fans are getting old now. This is DC's last shot to get them back into the comic shops -- since most will have stopped buying comics in the last 25 years -- to spend money on new product and get fired up again about back catalog items. It's the same mentality that drives record labels to recycle oldies. Once the original fans are gone, it's going to be harder to capture the attention of younger readers, who didn't grow up with it or remember buying the comics when they first came out. (That's also the pattern of record sales.) Classics might be classics, but New is God in today's marketplace. WATCHMEN is no longer New. But soon, there will be NEW Watchmen products. From DC's marketing vantage point, that's what matters. Really, you guys have to remember how the real world operates. There are guys sitting at desks owned by Time -Warner who are paid to think up stuff like this, five or more days a week, and some of them even spent time at college first being drilled to think exactly like that.

hmm, maybe the kuberts thought that his chest needed breaking up from the solid grey.

I thought maybe one of them was on twitter, so I could ask, but no, only Adam Kubert is, and I think it would be mean to ask "Hey, can you ask your brother/dad if there's a logo on Nite Owl's chest in Before Watchmen?" would that be rubbing it in?

Well there's no logo on the concept art, but it does correspond to the strip in the middle:

It definitely looks like there's some sort of design there on the cover, but if it's a logo what is it of? A lightning bolt? Someone ought to tell Dan that that's been taken.

Clearly these prequels are taking some inspiration from the films as well.

On a nerdier note, that figure's pants aren't striped.

I call shenanigans.

Guys, this was before Watchmen. Rorschach still hadn't figured out his style yet. Actually, I've heard that the final panel of the new Rorschach story involves him visiting a tailor to make him some purple, pinstriped pants.

Incidentally, I was in a comic book store the other week, and inside they had a Rorschach mannequin. It actually had the right style of pants.

Also, comic Rorschach has purple gloves.

They better not brownify everything in these prequels. Incidentally, though, I guess it would be silly to think that they'll all use the same secondary color palette used in the original.

But still, his stuff's purple.
