I think it makes sense to have a thread for each title.

Anywho, here's some of Darwyn Cooke's Minutemen art...

Hi-res

Ironically enough it came with a new Alan Moore interview.

Something seems off about the colouring.
The pencils and inks themselves actually look very reminiscent of a golden age comic, but the colours just look, I dunno, too new?

I find it interesting how the colors are toned down. It's like Cooke is trying to keep the primary colors of the costumes while also staying true to Higgins' darker palette.

Either way, I'm still impressed and this is probably the title I'm looking forward to the most.

I don't know how good an idea is that, he is trying to evoke a Golden Age feel as hard as he can, yet he also wants the darker tone of the original comic ?

Maybe he has something up his sleeve.

I don't know, I'm not that impressed. It looks like the type of artwork you'd see in a magazine, you know, when they want to use original artwork, but don't have access to the original artist. It's a bit too loose.

Exactly.

Also, is it just me, or does anyone else hate Sally's face ?

Well, it is a night-time image. But yeah, could be more contrast n' brightness. It seems a bit of a default (ie. lame) design decision... faded = retro.

I like it, and I especially like the blush. Very golden age.

I wonder how Mothman will be fleshed out. He barely features in the GN, yet he has such a presence. Him looking and behaving nervous amongst his super-confident cohorts, and being carted off to the asylum. How will he function as a super hero? His arc could be a really interesting counterpoint as he becomes increasingly disturbed. What will be the reason for his going off the rails?

Will he be able to glide with them crazy lil' wings?

Hollis Mason established plainly well that Mothman's alcoholism, coupled with paranoia and stress from the McCarthy hearings, drove him to mental instability.

Still, it could be interesting to actually see that. Hell, the writers may throw in some new reasons as well.

I'd hope so. An arch-enemy manipulated his vulnerabilities somewhat, maybe? Interesting stuff for a writer to play with.

Just watched the Watchmen video diary no.10, with it's great footage of the Minutemen in costume, in and out of character. Hmmm.

That's essentially the entire thesis statement of the fan reaction toward "Before Watchmen," isn't it?
