Over at Bleeding Cool, amongst others:

This is Dave Gibbons first comment on Before Watchmen since his words quoted in the DC Press Release that, even then, seemed rather awkwardly - or rather precisely - chosen, so as not to give them any real blessing.

But when talking about his new Madefire comic and his new gaming work for GameCity Nights, Dave Gibbons talked about Watchmen at length, and also mentioned the prequels when talking about the Watchmen video game, with a mocking laugh in his voice. He said (about one hour seven minutes in):

"It was a little bit out of my control, but they actually paid me quite a lot of money to be a consultant on it. I looked at two of the cut scenes and drew over a bit of artwork to show how I would draw it. That's what they paid me? well, I'd be embarrassed to tell you how many thousand dollars for. But I was a distant consultant.

"I didn't have a lot of input in it. To me anything to do with the movies - as far as I'm concerned, what Alan and I did was the Watchmen graphic novel and a couple of illustrations that came out at the same time. Everything else - the movie, the game, the [laugh] prequels - are really not canon. They're subsidiary. They're not really Watchmen. They're just something different.

"So I was quite happy to say with the video game, yeah, I like that, and I don't like that, and, that's okay, because it wasn't really anything that impinged on what we'd done creatively."

Catch Gibbo talking at length here.

Not sure what you're implying. Do you begrudge him taking money to consult on the movie video game?

Personally, I love the fact that he laughs just prior to saying "Before Watchmen." You can tell he thinks the idea of it is stupid. If he didn't he'd be involved in the project.

I should probably look for that CBR interview where he said he was ok with the idea of "Before Watchmen".

Read between the lines here.

The man has to make a living, so shitting all over DC and going rogue is not the best career move. Alan Moore likes to burn bridges, but most people tend to be more delicate. Put yourself in his shoes. Because of Watchmen, Alan Moore, one of Dave's dear friends for many years won't speak with him any more. So now you want Dave to speak out - potentially damage his career - and lose more friends over at DC?

I wish people actually were honest, like Warren Ellis, and just flat-out say "They gave me a huge pile of cash", and not run around in circles trying to find a place where you can't be attacked for being a hipocrite.

Of course he does, he got ripped off by the mainstream industry, why the fuck wouldn't he burn that bridge ?

Also, Gibbons said that Moore himself, whenever it was about Watchmen: "He didn't want to talk about", if that bridge is ashes, it's certainly not Alan's fault.

Not the only bridge he's thinking of, I suspect.

Of course it is. He can decide whether or not he wants to be in contact with him. I think Moore was being petty.

It's hard to hear Feliciano with Alan Moore's genitalia in such close proximity to his jaw area.

It was less of an insult, honestly, and more of an exercise in synonyms.

You can do better though ! "close proximity to his jaw area" doesn't mean "sucking his cock".

Do you want to be sucking his cock?

I think I've inadvertently unraveled some Freudian layers here.

Weeeeeeeeell.......!

In any case, we can criticize Alan Moore for a shitload of things, but I don't think any of those can be about his work in the comic industry, which to me, still remains unchallenged.

You do realize that that's seductive purple, right?

I've brought this up before, but I'm talking about Moore specifically wanting Gibbons to thank him for giving him his share from the Watchmen movie. Moore said

Quote:
"The only thing that ever would cause a problem in our relationship is if, when you get the money--that is, my share of the production money--I would ask that you just give me a quick phone call and say 'I've got the money, Alan. Thanks a lot.' Just thank me--or, write me a letter or something like that just saying thank-you. Just the words 'thank you' will be more than adequate."

Gibbons never thanked him, and that played a part in souring their relationship. While I'll agree Gibbons probably could have thanked him, I think Moore could have let it go.

:o

Never saw that..................sue me.

Yeah, Moore could've deffinitely let go on that one, maybe there were other problems that "snowballed" into making this into a much bigger issue than it should have ?
