We heard some talk of WATCHMEN's NYC backlot set being used in the Day The Earth Stood Still remake. Now there's a longer trailer, and I'm sure I recognize a certain newsstand that pops up around the -4:25 mark.

(edit: OK, maybe not. I just compared with the old publicity still with the newsstand.)

Well... it's a news stand alright...
Shoddy quality as per the vid.

The video has been removed at that original link. You can now find it here.

Yeah, that's why I said it was "a" news stand and not "the" news stand.
Not like Fox would give Watchmen a nod in their film, under the present circumstances especially.

Is it safe to say that this thread is over?

Over before the second post, probably! But it might be interesting down the road to see which Watchmen fixtures do pop up in TDTESS.

Unless it has something to do with squids and proving Nonfactor wrong, who really gives a fuck.

There is a "Gort" in the trailer. Don't know if he (she?)'s in the remake as the few frames on show were very close to the original's rubber-tin man. Could be more of a trademark statement.

This is kinda sorta off topic, but I didn't want to start a new thread just to ask ...
I'm from a suburb of Vancouver BC, and a newly converted Watchmen fan. I saw the trailer before the Dark Knight and purchased the graphic novel directly after. I've read it twice now and I'm hugely excited to see the film. After reading the graphic novel, I started researching the movie online, and realized it was filmed in my own city. Upon mentioning it to some friends, I discovered that the NYC backlot set was directly across from a mall at which some of my friends work. They'd watched it be built and saw the filming when it occurred (behind a big chain link fence and green screens, of course), as well as when they'd hauled in the classic police cruisers and taxis to the set.

Anyway, long story short, that was several months ago now, but the set is still there. I went there one night with my boyfriend and we peeked at it through the chain link fence, but there was a security guard so we didn't hang around for long. We went back a few days later to see it in the daylight, and miraculously, the security guard was nowhere to be found and the gates to the set were wide open. We drove in and spent a good hour or two wandering through the backlot and taking photos.
My username on this forum is from a playing card I took from a faux shop window on the set.

I have no idea if anyone has already posted photos like these, so I didn't want to start a new thread for this ... would any of you be interested in seeing these photos? If you PM me your email address I will gladly email them to you, or I can post them on the forum if it's allowed.

Dude, seriously, you should think before you post stuff like this.

(Says he who started this goofy thread anyway...)
