I think this could be great as a co-operative effort. If not, this thread can serve to collect the remixed trailers people are keen to make.

I just came up with an idea I'm proud of: open just like the new trailer - Comedian looks at door, door kicked in. Then cut to the bulk of the trailer, the best clips in sequence. After those have finished, cut back to the Comedian in his apartment when he says "Just a matter of time I suppose" - then the trailer ends like the SCREAM one with a long clip of him being thrown through the window. The reason I really like it is because it taps into a double meaning for the Comedian's line. Just like Manhattan's existence actually pushed America closer to nuclear war, all these activities of superheroes (as shown in the clips) lead to disaster.

So that's the way I'd love to see our effort start and end. Any clips will work within it. What do you think?

Based on how great and Kubrickian the early stuff from the trailer felt, it'd be nice to hear some more Glass in a re-edit.

I think any ending's got to have the scream obviously. I prefer that to be the capper than the dream sequence.

Get rid of that slo-mo turn by SS. Hate it so much.

Have to go and rewatch the trailer, but those are some random thoughts.

I already downloaded all 3 trailers so I'm going to start working on a remix trailer soon as well.

What format? .mov is notoriously difficult to edit, and converting it to avi or wmv would be lossy.
But if you have avi or wmv, would you mind sharing the links because I for one would love them!

I'm using .mov, not having problems as of yet. Just curious, where do you plan to upload /post your trailer?

It might help if we have a full list of shots to choose from.

First Trailer:
    * View from behind Jon Osterman as he looks out of door with electricity throughout the room
    * View of his face through the glass as he turns to look behind him
    * Looks at arm to see electricity running through it
    * Blueness comes out of him

    * Owl ship out of water
    * Laurie falls through ceiling
    * Nite Owl II kicking guy in prison
    * Comedian thrown out of window
    * Veidt in front of the TVs
    * Partially formed Dr M appears and disappears in front of janitor
    * Owlship flies, Rorschach with his flame can! (the clips are pretty inseperable because of a quick fade)
    * Laurie walks down steps
    * Three Dr M's
    * Nite Owl II lands in street
    * Comedian's coffin being taken to his grave (just out of view though)
    * Flag spread out to be put on coffin
    * Comedian in Nam
    * Protester throws bomb
    * "God help us all"

    * Cafeteria appearance of Dr M
    * Dr M and Laurie kiss
    * Comedian punches chunk out of wall as Veidt ducks
    * Rorschach shoves Moloch against wall
    * Veidt hits assassin into pool
    * Nite Owl screams
    * Dr M blows up Vietnamese soldier
    * Owl ship hovering above protesters
    * Rorschach standing high up, and close up of face (too quick fade)
    * Mars castle zoom out

Youtube or something. But it helps to have the best quality you can because even at youtube's size, any lossiness shows.

My advise is to keep the best parts and lose the worst. Also, try to keep the dialog in. Cutting it out will just make it look like some fans music video you'd see on youtube. I'd have less Rorschach talking, less shots of him zipping up the building. I'd make a more subtle trailer.

I might give this a shot.

This'll be interesting, as there's not too much footage to work with all the versions are going to be pretty similar.

Could anyone provide me with a download link to 480p HD of the Scream trailer? It's the only thing I'm missing, for some reason I can't download it from watchmen blog site.

Yes, definitely agree with you there. The only trouble about the dialogue is the music it overlaps...

SCREAM trailer:

    * Close up of Rorschach's mask - same clip as in first trailer, but longer
    * Rorschach on roof looking around - same but longer again
    * Shorter clip of Mars Castle
    * Nite Owl in front of Owl Ship, cape blowing
    * Jon blinking and the watch reaching 12
    * Dr M and Laurie in ruined NY
    * Dr M in cafeteria
    * Laurie through ceiling
    * Veidt looks at camera
    * Rorschach flame thrower
    * Laurie stairs (incl boot ghost)
    * Rorschach flies up into Comedian's apt. and close up of face
    * Dr M in the sky above the military peeps
    * Owlship -> Karnak
    * Mob + Owlship
    * A little bit of the Comedian jumping off (shows the whole thing in the second official trailer)
    * Nite Owl landing again
    * Laurie, Dan and Rorschach walking in Karnak
    * Longer shot of Comedian flamethrowing in 'Nam
    * Owlship out of water (shorter)
    * Dr M and tank
    * Veidt in front of TVs
    * Rorschach hitting a rifle against something or someone
    * Someone hit down stairs
    * Alternative shot was Comedian being punched
    * Laurie sliding on top of Dan
    * Laurie turning and running from fire
    * Dr M in 'Nam with jets flying above
    * Dr M blows up enemy soldier
    * Rumrunner jump
    * Rorschach jump up to reach ladder
    * Laurie throws Nostalgia
    * Owlship flies past camera
    * Owlship crashes
    * Laurie as the palace collapses
    * Giant Dr M's hand through roof
    * Jon's disintegration again
    * Dan's dream
    * Actually see Comedian when he says "God help us all"
    * Comedian through window

As for music, I think a video with "Street Spirit" by Radiohead could be really awesome.

For music I actually recommend running through the thread in the GN section of the forum about which songs fit the characters best. There are some really great song suggestions there.

And actually maybe I'll give a shot at editing together a new trailer, too, sometime this weekend. I'm starting to get Ideas.

I've been planning to use that for my last origin video. It would indeed be good.

The thing is, though, that they need to work well as trailer music. The Smashing Pumpkins track was pretty much perfect for its role. I think we've got to focus on sound first, before thinking about relevance. Otherwise we'll end up with a music video and as t3cii says, we should try to avoid that.

Ideally we can pick songs that both work as trailer music and are relevant. We're not professionals here but I'm curious to see what everyone comes up with, even if some of them are like Youtube music videos. :)

Does anyone here have the tech to separate the video from the audio in the trailers and upload them somewhere in two separate files? That would make editing a lot easier. Would also be very nice if someone knew how to separate the voice track from the background music in the newest trailer. Mixing and matching with new music and keeping the dialogue/narration will be a bit tough otherwise.

I second this because I want to make a fan trailer too. ;)

Impossible.
I think.

It wouldn't be possible to actually separate the voice from the music. But, through some manipulation (equalizers and filters) you could make the voice to be more prominent than the music. Perhaps, with another audio track, you could drown the music of the voice track so it's not noticeable.

I think the teaser trailer had a 5.1 audio track. But the only dialogue there is Rorschach's quote. Anybody knows if the new trailer in HD comes with a 5.1 track as well?

I love that piece, but it reminds me too much of Star Wars.
