They include the piece where Long shows off the Cards and Kovacs says "A Pretty Butterfly" and we get a quick flashcut to a dead dog beforehand...

Does Long act smug and arrogant when interviewing Kovacs? Also, is he referred to by name, or just called "the psychiatrist"?

I don't believe he introduces himself. He does act pretty high and mighty.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but this made me laugh (I'm pretty sure this guy still wears cardigans knitted by his mother- the Daily Mail is also a virulently righty newspaper):

He's believable as a prison psychiatrist. I think if he was portrayed as he was in the GN, it wouldn't fly that he could cut it against the hardcore personalities he'd come up against in that environment.

When an asshat as grand and pompous as this misses every point and hates it, you know Snyder has done a fine job.

Another positive review from the UK:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content/id/70210/watchmen.html

Quote:
Overall

Revelling in the spectacle, be it through special effects or drenching the scene in atmosphere Watchmen is constantly thrilling, combining detailed set and costume design, superlative special effects and of course some wonderful dialogue that is for the most part lifted straight from the pages of the graphic novel. Snyder combines all of this with excellent casting and an inspired soundtrack that drifts between song choices every bit as iconic as the visuals and an original score that is subtle but effective. There are lapses in the substantial 2hour 43minute running time, due both to some changes made to the source material and the often strict adherence to said material, but the film always bounces back and will no doubt reward multiple viewings due to the level of detail found throughout. It’s suitability to a wide audience is being questioned by some, though I think the biggest problem has nothing to do with not understanding the plot (it’s all rather simple at the end of the day) but in the expectations viewers have of more traditional comic book movies, something this is not.

i was pointed to this review in another thread, and read through it to this line

Quote:
Which also means we don't empathize with any of these creatures. And what's with the silly Halloween getups?

did the reviewer not listen to the date, the night that most of the costume wearing happens is blinking hallowe'en anyway, they go to karnak on nov 1st, therefore the fire rescue, and rorschach breakout are both on halloween.

Debbie Schlussel is known as an anti-Islamic film critic who has been known to call her critics Nazis and liberal terrorists. In her review of Watchmen, she claims that the film is anti-Reagan propaganda that's intended to deceive children and glorify rape, violence, and torture. She completely misses the messages of the novel and claims that an R-rated film is being marketed towards vulnerable children.

She even said that the brief lesbian scene was disgusting.

Read her review and follow-up if you don't believe me:

http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/movies/

Some of her readers have praised her and said that they told their teenage children to not watch the film because of its anti-family messages.

Oh, well. If it's a small discussion within a thread, I suppose that it's been forgotten. The idiocy of this woman and her baseless attack on Watchmen is deserving of a thread, but I can see what you mean.

I can see what you mean too. While it's entertaining to read her right-wing ignorance, I just end up completely pissed off at the end, with a thirst for throwing her out of a window
Not to mention the comments from her subscribers...

She's claiming that this film is targeting children, but it clearly has an R rating, and the trailer should be sufficient proof that this isn't a movie for small kids. I don't even know how she could claim that a film that only briefly references Reagan's presidential ambitions is anti-conservative and anti-family. That's absolute rubbish.
