But in the original Batman canon, Bruce's parents were killed outside a movie theater after seeing a Zorro film. "Batman Begins" was the only time, in the Batman films or comics, the Waynes were killed outside of an opera house. So there's that, too.
Then again, Watchmen is first and foremost a commentary on superhero films rather than superhero comic books. So it only makes sense that it pastiches Batman Begins.
And Nite Owl's "flying" cape. That's a homage of Begins as well. It was a bit of a groaner, but it was fun!

So to summarise - thanks to all those additions above - is this 100% of the opening credits?

* Silk Spectre I on steps with cops and newspaper headline
* Miss Jupiter/Enola Gay plane about to drop atomic bomb
* Armstrong landing on the moon - Doc Manhattan taking photos
* Jet fighters above Fidel Castro and Russian leaders in Moscow
* The Silhouette kissing the nurse on the streets at end of WWII
* Pregnant Sally's farewell Watchmen party featuring Silhoutte and Nurse (likened to Da Vinci's Last Supper)
* Silhouette and lover dead in bed with bloody graffiti 'Lesbian Whores'
* Dollar Bill dead - his cape tangled in the revolving door
* Mothman being dragged into a psychiatric ambulance, kicking and biting
* Andy Warhol exhibiting his Nite Owl paintings
* Ozymandias with Bowie, Jagger, Village People outside Studio 54
* Cop discovering two bodies tied to hydrant with Rorschach's 'calling card'
* Nite Owl I punching a thug at Gotham Opera House and saving "Mr and Mrs Wayne" - Batman posters in background
* The Comedian posing with a captured criminal
* Comedian killing JFK
* Little Kovacs in the hallway watching johns go in and out of Mom's bedroom
* Nite Owl II setting automatic camera to photograph the Watchmen group
* TV showing Nixon being elected for third time
* 'Who watches the watchmen' graffiti and molotov cocktail thrown into shop window
* Hippy chick putting a flower into the barrel of the gun, then being shot
* Doctor Manhattan shaking hands with JFK in front of White House
* Laurel Jane sneaking down stairs to see Mom and Stepdad arguing, snowglobe on TV with TV showing Vietnam war protests

More images very welcome! :)

I'm sure I can vaguely remember a couple of other newspaper headlines as well.

Oh fuck it. I'm going to go again in a coupla hours with a pad and pencil.

ETA - the last one which I noticed when I went again today :)

In that Last Supper shot of Sally's retirement dinner, you can see Captain Metropolis and Hooded Justice whispering and laughing off to the right.

Look for it the next time you go see it.

Just a bit of nit-picking. The correct term is opening titles. The credits are at the tail of the film, where people's work on the project is credited.
Thankyou,
goodnight.

Thanks. Fixed.

Next time a little less "douchebag" in your tone might be nice. Just a thought.

I'd noticed the first time how all the couples were together. Nelly and HJ, Sally next to hubby/manager, Nursie on Silhouette's lap (with Comedian seemingly interested in a 3-way...) plus confirmed bachelor and odd-man out Mothman off to the side.

Just LOVE the reverence to detail in the opening TITLES (oh so sorry pain...) and throughout.

I just can't stop talking about this movie - another reason I should get back to the cinema and see it again instead of just raving on in here. Four times in four days? And still jizzing too much in my pants to note every single nuance. I really AM an :ugeek: ...

I saw it on Thursday, will see it again on Monday. It is getting difficult... but it's the weekend now, and the cinema will be chock full of asshats.

Nice. Now you're wielding your douchebaggy-ness appropriately. Good form. ;)

Whispering, nothing. They're almost caressing each other's faces. I saw that immediately. Loved it.

I gotta detox as much as I can. Hopefully seeing it so much in a short time will wean me off of my addiction. I've never seen a movie as many times on the big screen but - besides loving it and never getting bored during the extreme length - I kinda like seeing how the audience (even with all the a-wipes there...and perhaps even those on here.......) react too.

And - for giving me a more positive experience than I could've expected in a movie version - I wanna reward Zack and crew for 'making my dreams come true' (paraphrase from AGeraldo in another thread). I think we geek-guys-and-gals just GOTTA do everything we can to make this more of a box-office success.

Anyway - better get going to the cinema! ;)

I thought the opening title sequence had been perfected when I saw 2006's Casino Royale. How wrong I was... the visual style of the scene was amazing. Does an amazing job of bridging Watchmen's existance as a flat, still, two dimensional medium, and that of a real three dimensonal moving world. Sets up the alternate history perfectly. Great use of music, that Dylan song fit perfectly. I'd almost say that it was my favorite part but... the whole movie was just as good.

Was anyone else just a tiny bit surprised there were actual "titles" over everything? I thought it would just be the montage and the music.

Seeing as it's the opening credits, I wasn't suprised. Snyder did an opening like this for Dawn of the Dead anyways, so I sort of knew what it was going to be like.

I wonder how much analysis we can put into that 'last supper' shot.

I just noticed in the shot of Andy Worhol, you can see another painting of Adrian in the background and paintings of Rorschach blots in the back right.

Good to see motionographer.com on the ball as usual. Great site, used to use their rescource in my motion graphics lectures. Good find!

I didn't see the mushroom cloud behind the Enola Gay until now . . .

Or The Silk Specter, I should say.

I was grinning like an idiot, that's for sure. In fact, as soon as the screen turned black then yellow, I was allllllll smiles for at least 15 minutes.

The opening sequence is uh-may-zing.

In case you were looking for another website with the opening credits:

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/the-watchmen-opening-credits-are-online

Seeing this surprisingly helps close the gap between now and the 20th when I'll get to see the film.
