Indeed.

Dead serious.

Heh, yeah. What was a little scary was that after I finished that and read through it, I was thinking, "Uh-oh. This might actually work." "Sweeney Todd" meets "Bye Bye Birdy" meets "Phantom of the Opera." Thinking about it, JEH would probably lose his voice by the first public performance because he'd have no vocal chords left. No worries, though, since I'm sure his voice would come back for "Freddy on Ice" or whatever form your musical would take. ;)

I'd enjoy seeing what Snyder mentioned about "Planet Rorschach," but maybe as a fake trailer in the special features section of one of the DVDs. That'd be fun to see in only 2:30 minute trailer.

tough call. my brain says "never compromise" - there is just the GN alan moore wrote, and that alone is "Watchmen", period.

on the other hand - and i suspect this is the reason why this idea popped up at all - there is the brilliant dynamic of the duo rorschach/nite owl which was, if possible, enhanced even more by the actors´ performance in the movie. put the spot on JEH´s rorschach - and there you have it. there´s the little sucker inside of me who can´t get enough of this brilliant character and his on-screen representation.
i freely admit it: i would watch every additional rorschach scene i´d get. and i love speculating about "the early years". the sad thing is, i fully realize that the impact would completely stand or fall with the script. could someone do the original GN justice? highly doubtful. so, this will forever stay in the realm of fan fiction, so to speak.

but once again, i admit: if there was a rorschach-centric prequel (or any prequel at all, i´d also go for the minutemen era), i would hope for the best and go watch it. feel free to rip out the stones now, guys. but i dare you to deny you wouldn´t be the tiniest bit curious ... ;)

True but I did say one of the reasons, that being the one that would likely be effected by a spin off. It was never meant to encompass all audience reaction to Rorschach. I know there are many reasons people are drawn to him.

I would also like to buy 2 tickets for the musical.

Most looking forward to-

This. Watchmen has it's work laid out. That's it. Done. End of the saga.

I think it's high time Rorschach the Musical got its own thread. My favorites:
Quote:
* "Ror-Ror-Rorschach" -- the Happy Harry Quartet
* "Behind you" -- instrumental dance number between Moloch and Rorschach
* "The night is generous to me" / "Stupid, stupid, stupid" / "My face" -- Rorschach, the Knot-tops, the Ladies of the Night, the Detectives and the SWAT Team Swingers
* "Ror-Ror-Rorschach" -- the Happy Harry Quartet

That said, no spinoff. Watchmen is Watchmen, all or nothing.

I see this all done Mel Brooks-style, and I LIKE IT! I want to choreograph it, pretty please, will do eet for twinkies and beer.

It would be like doing a series about Lucien Sanchez. The character is created to function within the confines of the author's world, and each Watchmen character is too specific to the Watchmenverse to work any other way. We know everything we need to know about Rors, we don't need to see another iconic comic character *coughwolverinecoughdeadpool* thrown into a poorly developed "prequel" (hate that word) for the sake of box office.

Maybe something like The Producers? Springtime for Walter and N-Y-C...

But if something like Rock Of Ages can be made (which I was told was actually very entertaining and well-written), then a Watchmen musical would be no problem. After all, nerds have been pushing for a Star Wars musical for sometime, the closest thing to that is Empire On Ice (see the Star Wars Robot Chicken special).

I'm going to have to go with the : If Alan Moore wrote it and was happy with it, but still NO don't do it. - kind of answer.

And you can toss in JEH's response too: only if it's a musical. (lol)

My first reaction was, "Why not?" but I totally love the idea of a musical. Whoever wrote that song list is EPIC. :lol:

As much as I love Rorschach (who doesn't?) the only spin-off that I think could ever work would be a Minutemen spin-off, and even that would require a considerable amount of skill to make it even remotely worthwhile.

Nah, you gets in free. You can be the person standing in the back with a clipboard pretending to take notes on the production for the director. And free food, too.

Am picturing a chorus line of prostitutes doing this:

Well :oops: to be honest, if they stay true to the character, I'd be fine with a Rorschach movie. I'm such a flipping fangirl.

The thought of a Rorschach the musical really tickles me. I like what was posted uplist. Brilliant!

Sure. The eternal caveat being, "As long as it doesn't suck."

A fairly broad mandate. My Rorschach movie would be set in the 1960s and show more of the character's origins and his teamwork with Nite Owl II, along with his introductions to the other crimefighters active in that era. I think this could be fascinating (the untold tale of the taking down of Underboss and the Big Figure!) and I don't hold with the common wisdom that ONLY Alan Moore is capable of authoring this. Although obviously I would prefer that Moore get first crack at it (with Gibbons to storyboard the movie and serve as production designer). Sooner or later, I have to believe that someone else is going to work within the Watchmen universe -- even if it's not in our lifetimes. I don't think we've seen the end of it all -- after all, Doc Manhattan tells us "nothing ever ends."

I just want it to be faithful to the original setting and characters.
