I've been telling people about the Watchmen movie since last year; most people's reaction were mildly curious at best. After seeing the trailer at least two people have ordered a copy off Amazon and prices on E-Bay (from what I've been told) have skyrocketed.

Not to long ago one of my co-workers wanted to buy my copy ( I of course told him no, ever so politely). When I showed him a copy of the book he didn't seem that interested, despite his friend giving it a ringing endorsement as well. After the trailer he's seems some what converted.

When the movie comes out the sales might be even crazier than they are now.

So, if I'm reading this right, it went from 100,000 copies in the whole of 2007 to 900,000 copies in one month of 2008.

From 100,000 copies in a year to 900,000 copies in a month.

100,000 in a year, 900,000 in a month.

:o :o :o

This does not compute. My brain seems to be incapable of comprehending such a leap. I can't begin to understand how that could happen, only that it is AWESOME!!!

I'll say . I was one of those 100,000 people who bought it last year. And, one of the few who had even heard of Watchmen (I say that because no one who wasn't into comic books, I spoke to, had ever heard of the aforementioned book).

It is shocking how a trailer has given the book so much attention.

I read it after I saw the trailer before Dark Knight and thought "holy crap what is this amazing thing?" I had to be a little convinced about reading it, though, since I'd never read comics (except for Archie comics). And since then, I've convinced about 6 people that they, too, should read Watchmen. And if everyone is doing that, which I'm going to assume they are, no wonder book sales are up. :)

My friend convinced me to buy the book a few months before Dark Knight came out. I saw scattered Watchmen-related stuff around for years before but never gave them much attention. There's another friend of mine who has seen the trailer and now wants to read the book quite badly. It's amazing. Em-aze-ing. Dang. How many seconds long was that trailer again? lol

Okay, I'm actually totally dissapointed by my peers.
I managed to get both my best friend and brother to read Watchmen, so that's 2 new fans because of the trailer.
And so college just started back up down here, and I expected all my lounge buddies, who I THOUGHT were all massive nerds/comic book junkies, or SO THEY CLAIMED, to have read the comic book. Especially since they all obviously saw TDK, and so saw the trailer, and they read comic books so a+b should = c.
Yeah. No. Not a single one of the...10 or so people that I expected to have read it read it!
JERKS! I started ranting about it and asking if anyone read it yet and blah blah, and a few of them were like "Oh, well I read the wiki article! *grin grin*"
...

I'm so disappointed in my supposedly nerdy friends. Jerks. I'll just keep shaming them and insulting their status as nerds until they've read the damn thing.

Nope - STILL haven't seen it. I can quote you any number of excuses - busy at work, busy with family, socialising, reading and re-reading Watchmen... but I think the reason is that I'm scared that it won't do it. That Heath will not live up to every critic who is scared to utter a negative word about it.

I will get round to see it (even just to see THE trailer in MASSIVE screen).

Quick question - where are we all from - majority from the states?

I'm from the UK, Scotland.. Inverness (Capital of the Highlands) to be exact.

Be seeing you.

EDIT Ummm PS and all that but "TDK" *IS* The Dark Knight isn't it?

EDIT AGAIN Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is... made mysel' look a bit stoopid then didn't I?

Hurm.

Cool.

Is it safe to assume this is a mainly USA based forum?

Not that it is that important but I don't wanna argue from a British viewpoint, ie release dates, Titan Books etc if I don't realise that you guys across the pond are gonna think I'm nuts.

Be seeing you.

Don't worry. We have many regular members from the UK, Spain, Brazil, so don't worry. This is an international fan site, so, you are more than welcome.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Very pleased to find y'all.

I am fortunate to have an American stye comic shop locally - in Inverness - called Heroes for Sale. The propriator, a pal, insisted I bought Watchmen when he first opened two years ago (I dressed as Spiderman that day to raise the profile of the shop). I did and read it. Well, I tried to read it. It took me a couple of attempts to get through the first three chapters. This is not due to problem with reading, difficutly of text etc - I just wanted to saviour evey page, every panel of something (although I hadn't read far into it) I instictively knew as good.

Anyway, it's now 1231am in Scotland and I have to be up mega early for work so I bid you all goodnight and hope to speak to you as soon as I can.

The weather, for anyone who is interested, is cloudy but not raining, cold but not frosty.

Be seeing you.

Not to get totally off topic, but greetings from Florida. It's sunny and in the 90's. Kekekeke. And we've only been hit by 1 minor tropical storm this season! *waves anti-hurricane flag*

And to pretend that I am on topic here, I have 1 more guy I think I'm wearing down and who'll read it in the next few weeks, so yayyyy!!!
And I just found out one of my professors read it years ago, which was cool.

I would have suggested removing the mask, first. ;)

I'm from South Wales (the Rhondda Valley), currently residing in Cardiff (capital of Wales for those who don't know). :D

On topic, I've convinced five friends/colleagues/family members to read Watchmen over the past few months. One colleague in work has become such a big fan after her first reading that she's getting a Dr. Manhattan tattoo done on her thigh!

Every day in work the office is filled with discussions about the GN and the film's development. She refused to watch the trailer until she had finished the GN as she didn't want any scenes/panels spoilerized.

my sister and i are currently trying to get my other sister to read the GN, she's already seen the trailer but is confused. the GN is in storage. so first we have to get it from storage, then give it to her to read when she's on break from college. i need to reread it as well.

:D

One of my other Livejournal friends has commented that they've just seen the trailer and they think it looks "amazing". Turns out they haven't yet read the GN, nor even knew about it until tonight! I am in the process of educating them whilst pointing them in the direction of one of our local comic shops so they can get their own copy.

These are good times.
