All I can say is that my mother has had the bloody smiley pin I gave her attached to her purse. It's gotten some attention as she told me she caught someone staring at when she was shopping at Costco.

In total, about 4 people. 2 Family and 2 Friends. funny enough, when I was able to bring home 6 smiley badges from a giveaway, all 4 got one from your truly. :D

It usually comes up when I wear my blood-stained smiley badge (which I bought off eBay two weeks ago and covet as my most prized Watchmen-related possession). Just the other day, a girl I work with saw it and playfully said "You got a smiley face on your hat," then noticed the blood stain and said "What is that? I keep seeing it everywhere..." I proceeded to fill her in. I think she might want to see the movie now, but I told her that the book is great too.

I just got my younger sister reading the book in anticipation of seeing the movie (and when I say "younger", don't worry, she's 20). She's kind of impatient - while reading Chapter 1, she started flipping ahead to the back of the book, causing me to yell "No! Don't spoil it for yourself!"

After Chapter 1, I asked her who she thinks killed the Comedian. Her theory: Rorschach did it, and doesn't remember it because he's secretly schizophrenic. I'm guessing she already figured out that the "The End is Nigh" guy is Rorschach, but thinks that he's just some split personality instead of an alter ego. She's also convinced that she's right because I laughed at her when I heard it. Won't she be surprised? (Presuming she doesn't skip ahead any more.)

I've tried to get about 15 people... 2 successful. Everyone else is either privy to my habit of recommending "depressing" books or still thinks com... graphic novels are for kids. Their loss.

I tried to get my sister to read it before the movie came out... she got to the halfway point then stopped, saw the movie and now doesn't want to finish it... because she kept falling asleep during the movie and figured if that was boring then finishing the book would be a waste of time. I kind of wanted to punch her in the skull after that... but eh.

I have an extraordinary gift of infecting people with the things I like very quickly, many people call me a virus.
I was able to get my one friend into Watchmen very easily, but my one male friend made the mistake of seeing the movie before reading the novel, and even made the mistake of stating that 'I think that even the bad Twilight movie was better.' Caused him to gain a few bruises from myself. So now my one friend and I are trying to get him to read the Graphic Novel to get him to change his attitude or will suffer much more from myself and my current rabid fangirling over Watchmen.

A few people I work with have seen the movie on DVD now, and they've been confused by it, so I tried to explain it to them, but to no avail. One girl only caught a half-hour of the film, and managed to catch both Dan/Laurie sex scenes, so she was under the impression that it was a porno. One guy thought that Rorschach was a badass and that Laurie was hot, but didn't understand the plot at all and thought the ending sucked.

Did I mention that most of the people I work with are idiots?

Maybe about a dozen close friends since 1988 who I think are intelligent enough to "get" it. I wouldn't introduce it to just anybody. I think some discretion is in order. Some folks are just not ready for this book and it's no good trying to force it on someone who's not ready. It only frustrates you and confuses/angers them.

Out of the people I've talked it up to or given a copy as a gift, most have liked it and a few have been mystified or negative. A mixed bag. I doubt anyone has liked it as much as ME, except maybe my wife!

It will be curious now how the availability of a movie version alters this. I would still rather give the book over the movie. But a lot of people are ONLY going to experience this story through the film version, which I find sad.

Four. Two have read the book and watched the movie and the other two have just seen the movie. I do spread the word of the awesomeness that is Watchmen any chance I get, though.

I am looking forward to showing the movie (the DC needless to say, but it could be the UC if it's out in time) to a good friend around the New Year who is NOT familiar with the novel and therefore I can see how intriguing or baffling the movie is to someone who does not approach it with preconceptions (as I did). I was fascinated to introduce him to Tolkien via the LOTR films, each year they were originally released, and see what he made of Tolkien's world as translated to film with no prior knowledge of the books. I find similarities to Jackson's and Snyder's treatments of their subject matter.

Well I got my dad to see the movie with me.

I haven't gotten anyone to read the comic yet though.

I got one person to read the comic(even though it took him several months). He also saw the movie five or six times. Two times with me and the other times with people like his family and other friends that he spread the Watchmen virus to. I also got my Dad and another friend to see it. I think that friend read the book too after seeing the movie. I also got him to watch the Director's cut. So all in all three people. Not that many considering I could just go around promoting Watchmen in the streets like a madman. I should do that...
