I really think that this attitude is a tad judgmental.

Rape fantasy is not uncommon. With a fictional character, the fantasy can be lived while remaining completely safe in a physical sense. I can understand how someone could be uncomfortable with this but, since she's not hurting anyone, I believe this is a case of "whatever gets it done for you."

Could someone please get this thread back on-topic before my head implodes?

A bunch, but i regret showing it to a few of them.

They don't appreciate the greatness of this novel at all and just use it to be apart of the hype, :x :x

it'll go like this

Me: So how did you like it?! Didn't it make you look at superheros in a completely different light?!
Person: UHhhhhhHHhhHHh RORSCHACH WAS AWESOME! Can't wait for the Movie!!
Me: Did you catch a lot of the subtle aspects of the comic within the plot as well as the art itself!?
Person:   Umm sortof! MOVIE YEAH!

It would seem I have failed in my quest to bring two users of my forum to the light. One of them flat-out admitted he got bored after Chapter IV (which I said in another topic is the way I can tell if the book is right for them or not; whether they got bored at Chapter IV or not) and the other claims to still be reading it, but has been on Chapter V for about a month now.

What's odd is a third forum member started reading at the same time they did, finished in a week, and now praises it at every turn. You'd think that'd give them a hint that I (who until then was the only member who had read Watchmen) was not a raving lunatic.

I also got another friend to read it about two months ago and he too loved it greatly and discusses it with me all the time. We've interested another friend in the movie, though he seems to be more of the "I'll watch the movie and then read the book if I liked it" person.

I've said this before and it hurts to say it again, but Watchmen ultimately is not for everyone, and I fear we'll see this with the movie too. Too many people have this idea of superheroes and comics in their heads and will not allow Watchmen to change that perspective. To them, it's a bad book because the "bad guy" gets away with it, the "main character" dies, and the "Superman" speaks in quantum physics and experimental science. It's not what they expected, but unlike the majority of those who read Watchmen, they don't allow those changed expectations to please them, and instead shut them out.

What hurts more is the "majority is wrong" fallacy these people often adopt; that is, there's something wrong with everyone who likes Watchmen, not the other way around. Instead of accepting that many people like the book and they just don't, they take to claiming it is "overrated" or "not worth the hype" and attempt to bring others down with them.

It's wrong and stupid, but many people are.

I have gotten two of my friends to read it and two others want to borrow it from me. Both of my friends who have read it absolutely loved it.

I got one friend to read it about a year ago
(and he's busting with excitement about the film); told my gf about it a few months back (she hasn't been able to read it yet, though - she has a ridiculous reading schedule for school this year), and she got it for her brother for his birthday who loved it and is also looking forward to the movie; got another friend interested in it (although the trailer with TDK helped initially), and he also turned his gf onto the GN (and now she's uber-excited about the movie). They both really enjoyed the book. Finally, a few weeks ago, I got my mom to start reading it and she's just gotten to Chapter IV - seems to be pretty interested in it so far. I also got the hardback version for my aunt, but I don't know if she's started it yet

Two people so far.

One absolutely refuses to read it on the grounds that the term 'graphic novel' is too pretentious. I tried to say that it was a comic series initially. I've got to buy it for him, I guess. Give him an obligation to read it.

Three of my friends they all like it, but two out of the three skip the documents in between the chapters and the black freighter  and two of them are going to see the movie with me.

I just checked with a friend to whom I lent my copy of the GN, and she loves it so far.

On my seventh. One of my buddies brought it back to me at my work today. My manager asked me what book it was and I handed it to him. He read it for the next six hours till we closed.
