I think you may be right Ronch. It makes sense that those secondary characters that Rorschach (and the readers) knew were indeed destroyed, which is a huge punch in the gut to us and of course Rorschach, who unlike Adrian, actually had some connection to these 'background characters'. I think it's also part of the reason he couldn't accept Veidt's compromise as easily as the rest - He might not have been friends with these people but he could see their humanity, as he say's '..but there are so many deserving of retribution' and perhaps Mr's. Shairp and her children were derserving.

I think that’s an interesting point. I never thought about it before but Rorschach was the only one to have a real connection with the everyday working class people of the world and those that were most affected by the attack.

Dan was from a privilege background and had his nose stuck in ornithological journals, Laurie by her own admittance only knows superheroes, Adrian was also from a privileged background and also admitted that he felt no real personal connection to any living person.

Those who die are Rorschach’s neighbors, co-workers, maybe relatives. That would make the horror of Adrian’s plan more real in some way. Adrian didn’t know the face of those he killed as well as Rorschach did.

Yeah to add to that.

Adrian claims to know the face of every person he killed.... So what?

The only person he relates to died 300 years ago....

The only death he is sorry for is Bubastis....

I love the landlady scene in the book - yes, Walter seems to appear again for a moment, perhaps quite significantly since it foreshadows the 'compromise' he made in the final chapter as Walter comes to the fore, essentially saving the world. Perhaps it is the moment Walter finally decided to fight back. Perhaps Rorchach had his mask off for too long and Walter saw his chance (he couldn't have been more urgent about getting his 'face' back). The mask is as much to do with keeping Walter in as freeing Rorchach.

Interesting however, how Rorchach/Walter silently endures living so close to a prostitute so like his mother, something you would think would crush him - it makes me think that it's more likely that was drawn to her because of the similarities to his mother (she cuts a very maternal figure). This way part of him can , however faintly, continue to live a kind of fantasy of life before it all want wrong.

Its already been discussed somewhere on the forum i do believe that rorschach never really HATED his mum. As much as he'd like to think so. Of course he saw his mother in his landladym he said it himself.

In the frame when he sees the land ladies son, its the most human you ever see him. Dont you agree?

I agree. He wanted to hate his mother with every fiber of his being, but there was still that blood-tie he couldn't shake. I think that, during this particular scene, he realized that he was part of his mother's flesh and blood. Having realized that the woman who reminded him so much of his mother was, in reality, a loving mother, perhaps Walter understood that his own mother did what she could for him, even if it wasn't out of love, but because she had to.

Also, I think Rorschach/Walter's most human scene is his unflinching order of his own execution. I get chills just thinking about it...

(I've been gone for a while)

Sorry- but that was more what I meant by "landlady reminded him of mother". What LadyRor said. v__v I should have been more clear. Sometimes I'm just unable to connect everything. Yes- of course he hated him mother that is undeniable. His response to when she died "Good." (er...wasn't it?).

But yeah- what L.R. said there...up there- she's got it.

That part in the book where Walter looks down at the kid and kinda tears up is simply brilliant. Something that small is just, amazing.

No. In this light, Rorschach is sort of a White Knight here. He rescues women several times from rapists and muggers, but never hurt a woman at all. I don't think he could have hurt Mrs. Shairp even if he wanted to. He's too good for that.

Awww. ^^

It's nice to know that Rorschach would never hurt me because I'm a female. LOL. Not that I do bad things though anyway. I don't do any of the stuff that seems to bother him.

He might yell at ya and call ya a whore (or in my case, he calls me a whore and asks for a sandwich in the same breath  ) but he'd never attack a woman physically or sexually.

LOL. I doubt he just calls women whores...unless they actually are whores.

I guess he might say that if I try to fangirl on him though. XD

I am a virgin though. lol.

But even though I'm a virgin he might still consider me a whore if I came on to him. XD

I don't know he called Sally a "bloated aging whore" and as far as we know he had not reason to, except from her revealing costume, maybe. She married, got pregnant and retired when he was a kid so maybe all women are whores for him.

I do remember him calling her that....and I do wonder why, since I'm pretty sure she wasn't a whore. It's true that he might have thought that based on how she dressed and how many men drooled over her. And perhaps he knew she was flattered by those porn comics that were made about her. I guess the fact that she retired at age 29 is a pretty young age to retire too but she had a kid so that's why....although maybe Rorschach feels that women who fight crime should avoid getting pregnant since it messes with their ability to keep doing justice.

lol. My sister never wears anything remotely revealing even though my sister is really pretty. I still remember a year or 2 ago we went to a store becasue she got some shirts there the year before that she liked. However, this year they made the shirts lower cut and my sister was like "This is so scandalous!" and refused to buy them. LOL. It wasn't even that bad....she is just like this. And recently she bought a shirt but she's going to sew some extra thread into the chest area so that it reveals less than normal(it's not revealing to begin with, she just wants to make it even less so).

I admit I wear mini-skirt sometimes myself though....but that's about it. XD My legs are one of my best physical features so I like to show them sometimes. LOL. Although it is a bit creepy when guys driving by honk at me and stuff, which has happened a few times.

We also should take in account that Sally was kind of a flirt so maybe she flirting with guys confused him and he though they were going beyond some smiles and kisses. Now if she also did that while "dating" Hooded Justice or if she "moved on" from him to her manager too fast for his taste that might also add to his idea of a whore...Still that is too much of a strong word for something you really had not actual evidence for starters.

Also funny enough he never called Laurie a whore even if she suspected and affair with Dan I wonder if he has a different word for that (cheater, two timmer...) and we didn't had the chance to see him using it or if just because she was with Dan and he could forgive it a little bit more since it meant his friend was not longer alone (or for the slashers because he knew that Dan was really hard to resist ;) )

Yeah and he might think she's a whore because she had a kid with another guy while she was MARRIED no less. I forget if he knows who the father really is though.

I'm guessing he didn't knew since not even Laurie or Jon knew and I doubt the comedian would tell him at any point, that is why I didn't added that fact.

That, or he calls nearly all whores. He never mentioned her "job" bevor, so I think not only the readers were surpised about that fact, Roschach didn't knew it too

Yeah although he could have made an assumption potentially by the fact that the marriage went bad after that.

lol....true.....a guy coming on to him would probably get thrown down an elevator shaft. XD

Honestly though, I wouldn't try to come on to him unless I knew him for a while....since I don't randomly come on to people like that. LOL.

Actually I met a voice actor recently and it was funny but I was the only girl out of all the other girls who didn't squeal and ask to be hugged and stuff. LOL. I'm really shy and what not in real life.

If I met Walter/Rorschach in real life, I think my women's self-defense traing would kick and I'd beat his ass down. And then put my phone number in his pocket while he was unconscious or something...

lol. That's hilarious. XD

I don't have any women's self-defense training. :S I have nothing to defend myself with from people other than to run. >_< I need other people to protect me. :( lol.....my b/f is really protective of me whenever he's visiting me though. He worries about me getting attacked one day or something. LOL.
