Did any of you lot collect the monthly mags when they first came out?

Do you remember the agonizing wait until the next issue?

Yep, that's when I first read Watchmen. In fact, all of the cover images that you see in the Plot Summary section (http://www.watchmencomicmovie.com/watchmen-comic-plot-summary.php) of this site are scans of my original issues (done very carefully). I remember the wait being very annoying especiallly when they skiped over a month before the last issue.

I bought mine at Forbidden Planet in London. I think I remember seeing an article about the series in a newspaper and then scurried off there to get the ones out up until that time.

Was I a happy puppy.

Yes, I read them one issue at a time when they first came out. I remember buying that first issue the second it hit the shelf at the local comics shop (I was there waiting for the week's new books when it was unpacked and stocked). The cover was so striking I had to have it. I was immediately hooked.

Hmm... Where was I in 1986? What was going on back then...?

Ah, that's right. I would've been in a uterus somewhere in Oregon. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Sadly, I didn't learn to read until I was 2, and by then the series was pretty much over. Not to mention I was barely making any money at that point. ;)

:)

Yes, and yes... I bought it month after month during an agonizing year (in my case it was in 1986, here, in Spain, it was published a year after).

Now I have a spanish hardcover, a titan books TP, and the absolute edition, apart from the now-very-worn 12 original issues, that I keep well protected.

I was in the process of moving to Sweden from London the year it hit the shelves. I bought the last imported issues here in Stockholm.

The graphic novel was later translated into Swedish, but it wasn't a success. The English-language version is the one seen in the shops today.

It would be great to show Watchmen translated into different languages on the site. If anyone has an issue in a language other than English, please email me some scans. Thanks!

Well, I'll see if I can get the german copy of Watchmen again, which I borrowed from the library once. Though I have to say it's by no means as good as the original. Some of the puns just don't make any sense being translated (the whole "raw shark" thing for example - the scene is plain stupid in german), and in some parts it's just so sloppily translated (e.g.: in some pictures the sign says "Das Ende ist nah", in some it still says "The End is nigh", same with lots of the graffiti and posters).

To fully enjoy Watchmen I think you really need to read the original.

There's your tag line for the movie poster proper right there. ;)

Yes I did, and yes it was . I was reading Saga of the Swamp Thing at the time as well, which was also frequently delayed but only slightly as compared to Watchmen. I would love to know the actual release dates of each issue. Anyone know how to find that info?

Welcome, Shannon. Yes, go to the Comic Plot Summary section of this Web site for all of the release dates.

I got that huge 500 page thing that is just a large paperback off all episodes.. And I got that.. Like... Ummm, I'd say about.. Maybe 3 months ago at most.. I'm a big movie guy and I had heard about the film a while back. I had only heard that it was called "The Best Graphic Novel Ever".. So I started doing google searches on it and stuff and found lots of totally neato images.. **COUGH** **RORSCHACH** **COUGH** - So I ended up buying Watchmen with a Sin City book (To Hell And Back). Now I'm into comic books..

aaahh.....i remembered it like it was yesterday.

well actually, it was last year i got to know abt this comic book. was reading abt 300 in wikipedia, and it had a link that the same director was gonna do this movie abt watchmen.

i was scared at first, i dont like violence that much, especially in comic book drawings. but watching heavy metal the movie when i was a teenager basicaly raped my eyes of the innocents and perceptions of animation/comics potrays!

but i muster the courage to read it, and boy, it was one of the best decisions i've ever took.

i have a new profound respect of graphic novels now. all thanks to watchmen.

Finally - my copy of Watchmen has arrived. Took them a week and a half to deliver this sucker - not to mention the eight phone calls. :|

Not to break balls, but did we need a new thread for this?
