Bookmarked it. Impressive stuff.

It had to be The Comedian.

There is an interesting article up at the Watchmen Wiki called The Fate of Hooded Justice and Captain Metropolis.

It points out another theory, that HJ just took off his mask and CM faked his own death, and they were alive in the current story. This theory contends that they are actually in a panel of the comic, and that there are enough clues that indicate they are still alive. Or should I say WERE alive, because if they were in the city, they were probably killed by the Squid when it materialized.

In any case, check out the link above for an interesting theory!

I saw that a while ago and I do have to wonder. If it's a coincidence, it is one hell of one. I'd be curious to ask Gibbons/Moore about it.

So did anybody ever ask Dave Gibbons about this?

Yes. He denied it.

Dave Gibbons, however, is usually pretty vague and evasive when asked about little background things like this (rightfully so, says me), so who knows? I don't personally buy it, as sweet a thought as it might be.

A hell of a coincidence, but things like that do happen, I guess. Gibbons answer is quoted in the wiki article:
Quote:
as reported in Rich Johnston's column Lying in the Gutters, when Dave Gibbons was asked about this theory he replied "That wasn't our intention, but it's such an interesting and plausible theory that I'm reluctant to deny it!" Johnston suggested it was fate conspiring against the creators

It does make sense though, with one body beheaded and the other 'badly decomposed' -- hard to really identify.

But when I read the comic for the first time I thought it was crystal clear that Blake had killed Müller/HJ. Blake told HJ he'd get him, after HJ interrupted him raping Jupiter, and later Blake did get HJ. I still think that's the story the authors wanted to tell.

But I don't put it beneath them to joke around a bit.

He told me "I didn't intend it, but I take all the credit!"

Makes sense to me.

There's so much geeking about the comic, and a lot of the things found in the pictures are nothing more but coincidence.
Or synchronicity. Or... MAGIC!

"The Fate of Hooded Justice and Captain Metropolis" is a very convincing theory, and I'm inclined to believe it. I think it was already mentioned, but the parallel to Laurie saying that her and Jon's relationship is fine, while HJ and CM are embracing each other, is ironic. Although it could be a reference to the past instability of HJ's relationship with CM (maybe it's still rocky, but they're putting it on for the sake of peace, convenience and/or security). Or HJ realized the true extent of his activities with rent boys that were getting harder to cover up as time went on and the superheroes were revealing their identities, and just settled down with CM.

Also, HJ's possible detachment from CM and high sex drive. The former may be a parallel to Dr. Manhattan, Laurie's boyfriend at the time. The latter may be a parallel to Laurie's probable high sex drive that Dr. Manhattan couldn't fulfil (coupled with his own detachment from humanity, his statement evidently details a one-sided relationships almost entirely supported by Laurie, and he mentions not knowing what stimulates her anymore), and/or CM's potential impotency (like Dreiberg's impotency outside of his costume with Laurie).

Also, as a side-note (in case no-one caught this, although I thought it was obvious): while Hooded Justice's costume is meant to signify an executioner and all that, the noose probably represents Hooded Justice's BDSM fetish. Also, "hooded" may be a reference to him being uncircumcised. He was allegedly a Nazi sympathizer, and the Nazis hated the Jews, who practiced circumcision. So that'd be a nice parallel too.

I know I've heard this somewhere before, can't remember exactly where though.

Submission, sado-masochism, even erotic asphyxiation.

It's a direct nod to The Lasso of Truth.

There's no "Lasso Of Truth" more than there is implicit hardcore bondage sex.

The Comedian killing Hooded Justice just seems too obvious.

I remember that back in the day of original episodic publication 1986/87, plenty of fledgling fanboys had it the other way 'round: that it was in fact Hooded Justice we had glimpsed pounding The Comedian in his apartment before hoisting him aloft and then defenestrating him.

Not me, though. I had Veidt pegged from issue one: "Have a nice day."

Interesting thought, but there's really no clear motivation from Veidt's end, unlike The Comedian, who had a personal score to settle.

He's talking about The Comedian's killer.

Have you got the comic handy?
Compare Ch2p7p6 to Ch1p3p3.

HJ is deliberately implied as a suspect.
