I know Superman has been deconstrcuted to death but why hasn't Watchmen dived into other heroes such as Green Lantern, Hawkman, etc.?

you say it like watchmen is an ongoing thing, but i guess the reason is that all the characters in watchmen were based on Charlton superheroes because it was written shortly after DC aquired the rights to the characters, Alan was commisioned to write something for them, but then it was decided to make the characters all original, or something like that. i guess the reason neither of those heroes were "deconstructed" were simply because none of the characters in Watchmen were similar to those characters, Watchmen is set in a world with no aliens and only one superhuman, so to have characters like an intergalactic cop, or a human augmented with ancient alien technology or magic, well they just wouldn't fit.

Watchmen is meant to take place in our universe. Can't have too many God-like beings.

What's more, I think that Moore and Gibbons deliberately designed their characters to loosely fit superhero archetypes. Comedian, for example, could represent such patriotic superheroes as Captain America, or perhaps such gun-happy anti-heroes as The Punisher. Rorschach represents The Spirit, The Shadow and other such non-powered superheroes. Dr. Manhattan, of course, stands in for beings with god-like powers, such as Superman, Green Lantern, Captain Marvel, and pretty much every one of the X-Men.

Basically put, these six characters comment on pretty much every superhero ever created in some way or another.

Well Nite-Owl II wasn't Batman... he was Ted Kord.

And Moon Knight.

Yes, all the characters are Charlton characters, but they also took cues from other famous characters. The Comedian is meant to be Peacemaker, but he has a lot of Nick Fury and The Punisher in him too, just as Nite-Owl has both BB and Batman in him, and Rorschach has Mister A and The Question in him. Jon is supposed to be like The Atom, but it's clear that Moore was also trying to show us how detatched a real superman would be.

Nite Owl = Cyclops

-Both get the short end of the publicity stick
-Both are 'nice guys'
-Both have to deal with pretentious hardasses (i.e. Wolverine - Comedian)
-Both get the sexy chick in the end (strictly comics. I fucking despise X3)
-Both like to yell dramatically when shit happens.

they also happen to be my two favorite superheroes.
ever.
