I looked at the picture of the minutemens xmas-party from under the hood and I noticed that Hooded justice is holding an object. I just can't get what it is.

Pistol? Drumstick? You can find the picture in this link

He looks empty-handed to me.

There is something right over his hand.

Did you look at the right picture? It's the third from the top. The christmas party.

You can probably see it better in the novel, if you have one close.

Do you know, on closer inspection (in the novel... I've always got one close!), I believe it may well be a party blower, thus:

Image

...which is a great comedic touch by Gibbons being as HJ would be unable to use it properly whilst wearing that cowl, which remember he never took off even in the presence of his fellow Minutemen so as to maintain his anonymity. He must be begrudgingly holding it for someone else!

In twenty-six years of reading, scrutinising and analysing WATCHMEN, I have never noticed that detail before now, nor have known of anyone else to have ever picked up on it or to have drawn attention to it on any forum previously.

Fantastic eye, Milk_oh. I genuinely thank you for introducing me to a new 'hidden' detail after so very, very long.
Quite an opening post; please do stick around!

wow man! that means alot to a newbie like me!

Right now I feel really great! Partly because I believe you have right, it must be a party blower! That solves my mystery! But mostly because of the compliment! I'm really flattered and I'm glad I could contribute with something new to the forum! Even if it was a simple question.

Thank you for treating a rookie very friendly!

This is a surprisingly good thread for something so seemingly minor and negligible.

I was expecting something else......

not even close.

A party blower.

Well actually... yeah, nevermind.

...yet hitherto undiscovered, unmentioned and unappreciated, just hiding there in plain sight all these years... a rare commodity indeed in the world of watching WATCHMEN.

Tickled me at least. Maybe someone with connections 'round here could let Mr. Gibbons know this little flourish of his has been spotted at long last (wonder if he still remembers actually adding it?); my guess is he'd be tickled, too...

I email Dave... Dave emails me:

Thanks for the email. Hope all's well.

Hadn't thought about it in years but you're right, that IS a party blower that
Hooded Justice is holding. Just seemed funny at the time to give him a gift he
couldn't use and to imagine the unseen expression on his face!

Now it's out, I await a four issue miniseries based on HJ's angsty relationship
with novelty goods.

Best

-- Dave

Awesome. I was tempted to email Dave as well, but I'm glad someone did.

But now this raises the question - who are you that you have Dave's email address!?

To be honest, I've had some theories for a while now.

Hurm.

I don't know, but I'm a sucker for message board intrigue.
