So, for anyone who follows me on Facebook, you may see that Paloma and me do talk a lot. My beef with her is that when I leave her a message, she doesn't really follow up on conversation and I get the sense that she wants to avoid me. Then it seems like she doesn't.

Truth is, I do like hanging out with her and I know she doesn't want more from us, but I don't know if I should talk to her about that or very simply realize it by asking her out sometime. She is or was dating someone, so I don't know how she might feel about that either.

Sounds like she isn't that interest in you.

I know she's not, but I'm okay with being friends with her. But I don't know if I should ask her if we can actually be friends or just find out by interacting with her.

Don't ask, you'll find out one way or another.

I don't know if this is the right thread for it, but this pretty much has made me fall for Brie Larson:

You can find women like that, they just might not look like her.

Well, they don't necessarily have to look like her. I'm not that much into blondes anyway.

Shouldn't there be a lot of girls like that in your film classes?

Nope. Most if not all of the girls (and guys too) in my Film classes know next to nothing about movies.

That's just silly. Surely they can't be film majors then?

Oh, believe me. And my professors aren't much help either. Seriously, in one Intro class a professor of mine didn't show anything that hadn't been made before 1993 and most of the movies he showed weren't exactly high-class cinema. But of course, there are some people who do know at least a bit about Film in those classes. As far as girls go, the only one I've met who's like that is Paloma.

When you say "nothing", what do you mean ? Specifically.

He probably means the amount of film knowledge that any non-film buff would be expected to know.

So not a ton.

Well, talk to them about the French New Wave, 70s and 80s Martin Scorsese, Jaws or even The Godfather and all you can expect in return is a blank stare.

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

I mean, French New Wave ? Sure, I can pass that, but The Goddamn Godfather ?

Are you SURE you're in film school ?

BTW, just to clear up. My major is Creative Writing but I'm a Film Studies minor and I've taken quite a few Communications electives with a lot of Digital Media Production or Communication students and I was member and president of the student film club, so yeah, I can pretty much tell you I know that department pretty well. Even better than a lot of its own students.

And yes, a lot of its students and professors are film culture-challenged.

Yes, it does.
I like to make my own luck but I guess the luck I make is pretty shitty.
